System Safety Engineer – Secret Clearance Required

Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay: $165,000 - $185,000
Overview
Seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to support defense system development programs in Tucson, AZ. This role focuses on System Safety and Systems Engineering efforts across the engineering lifecycle, with close integration into multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure timely, compliant, and high-quality safety deliverables.
The selected engineer will contribute to system and software safety activities in both traditional and Agile development environments, supporting government and DoD safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Execute System Safety and Systems Engineering activities in support of defense programs

Integrate into engineering teams to support system and software safety implementation throughout development
-
Maintain early development milestones and ensure on-time delivery of required safety documentation

Support system and software safety efforts within Agile development environments
-
Collaborate with engineering, program management, and safety stakeholders to meet program objectives

Contribute to proposal development and cost/schedule planning efforts as required
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)

Minimum 8 years of relevant Systems Engineering or Safety Engineering experience

Experience in one or more of the following disciplines:

System Safety Engineering

Software or Firmware Engineering

Electrical Engineering

Equivalent Safety Engineering roles

Active U.S. government issued Secret security clearance

U.S. citizenship required
Desired Qualifications

Experience supporting DoD System Safety Programs (e.g., MIL-STD-882)

Experience with system and software safety implementation in Agile development environments

Master’s degree in STEM with 6+ years of relevant experience

Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)

Experience supporting proposal development activities
