Planned Parenthood Western Pennsylvania (PPWP) is the local affiliate of the country’s leading sexual and reproductive health care advocate and provider. PPWP operates five health centers located in Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Cambria Counties and provides education and advocacy services throughout western Pennsylvania.

An advanced practice nurse in a management position, overseeing the professional development and performance of other clinicians and registered nurses, ensuring high-quality and ethical patient care with focus on overall team performance and ensuring adherence to clinical standards and regulations. Works in cooperation with the Medical Director, Lead RN, Family Planning Patient Services Supervisor and VP of Operations to ensure health center operations meet agency standards. Provides gynecologic services to patients after thorough examination and evaluation.

|
Leadership
- Directly supervises and manages clinicians and RNs, including recruitment, hiring, and addressing team issues, ensuring effective communication among all staff.
- Provides or coordinates and oversees medical department orientation, proctoring, teaching of new clinician and RN hires and ongoing professional growth, helping to develop their skills, knowledge, and self-awareness.
- Provides guidance and feedback on case management issues for clinicians and RNs at meetings and during health center hours
- Conducts chart reviews, after new hire training and problem-focused audits as needed to ensure adequate and appropriate medical record documentation and submits incident reports via the online AIMs reporting system as necessary.
- Leads monthly clinician and RN team meetings in conjunction with the Medical Director and Lead RN in Abortion Services and one to one meetings with direct reports. Shadows services in Abortion Services and Family Planning health centers monthly and strives to ensure consistency and standardization in work practices throughout all the family planning health centers.
- Conducts skills observation and writes performance evaluations of licensed staff.
- Works to ensure a professional team attitude in the health centers, providing all health center staff with an example of professional decorum.
- Assists in monitoring health center compliance with federal and state laws including licensing requirements, laboratory methods, clinical service exposure control, and funding program regulations.
- Ensures appropriate follow-up and handling of problems using adherence to evidence-based protocols, risk and quality management, root cause analysis, Just Culture and REACT principles and procedures.
- Prepares for and participates in inspections, reviews, consulting engagements and corrective action plans pertaining to patient services.
- Updates PPWP protocols and workflows in accordance with the current PPFA Manual of Standards and Guidelines. Provides training and communicates important clinical updates to licensed staffs.
- Collaborates with the Clinical Applications and Training Supervisor and Lead RNon development of support staff training materials including EHR clinical workflow configuration decisions, plan implementation and approval of training tool creations.
- Responsible for overseeing follow-up and management of abnormal labs and referrals within and outside the medical center.
- Responsible for the management of emergent patient problems.
- Collaborates with the VP of Operations, the Lead RN, the Family Planning Patient Services Supervisor, the Abortion Services Health Center Manager and the Medical Management team on health center operations and with the Billing teams to optimize revenue cycle and communicate and support billing and coding practices with the clinical team.
- Contributes to program development and policy implementation.
- Champions agency’s efforts and aligns with the management team to improve customer service, productivity and revenue cycle goals among licensed and support staff.
- Regularly checks PPWP email for important agency-related communications, at least every 24 hours.
Clinician
- Provides medical services, contraceptive and gynecologic, according to the standards and guidelines of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the protocols of Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania.
- Functions in accordance with applicable state nursing rules and regulations and other applicable state laws, rules and regulations.
- Recognize and utilize ability to maintain close contact with Medical Director and/or supervising/collaborating physician, as needed.
- Complies with all CLIA and OSHA regulations.
- Carries out the duties of testing personnel in a laboratory performing moderate complexity testing when wet mount microscopy is indicated.
- Supervises the lab carrying out the following responsibilities:
- Assists with oversight of the PPM Department of Health, Bureau of Laboratories-Level 1 laboratory(s). Perform or designate the performance of quality control procedures.
- Maintains and reviews the quality control records daily and make reports to PPWP administrative and laboratory staff in instances of non-compliance or as requested.
- Ensures materials used in the laboratory are dated, stored, and used according to the manufacturers’ directions.
- Coordinates and oversees the training of testing personnel.
- Reviews and evaluates the clinical lab performance of all lab staff annually as a part of their annual review.
- Works with Laboratory Director to ensure that:
- All test methodologies are appropriate, and the center(s) is providing patient results.
- Verification procedures for each test are adequate to determine performance characteristics, including precision and accuracy (as appropriate).
- Interprets laboratory tests and orders additional diagnostic tests when indicated for gynecologic conditions. Makes appropriate referrals for additional medical findings for evaluation.
- Understands and participates in the referral/follow-up process including referrals for procedural abortion, prenatal care or adoption services.
- Consults with the Medical Director, as needed, for abnormal patient conditions or clinical scenarios that do not fall within the Medical Standards and Guidelines
- Prescribes medications including all contraceptive methods outlined in the PPWP Medical Standards and Guidelines and according to the prescriptive authority agreement with the collaborating physician.
- Assists with annual competency assessment for all health center staff at assigned health center locations if needed.
- Maintains productivity and customer service expectations and compliance standards of the agency.
- Initiates or assists in the delivery of emergency care in accordance with established procedures.
- Participates in PPWP’s Risk and Quality Management program.
- Meets Mandatory Child Abuse reporting requirements and training in accordance with state law and PPWP Child Abuse Reporting Policy.
- Participates in and is accountable for all research-related duties as delegated.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience:

A minimum of four years clinical experience as a Clinician in sexual and reproductive health care or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired such as training, credentialing, and experience as an Advanced Practice Clinician at a Planned Parenthood Member of the Federation.
