Position Summary
Counsel is responsible for providing expert and strategic legal advice to the company’s executive team and management on a wide range of legal matters. This role involves managing all legal issues within the organization, including acting as the company’s legal representative in litigation and other legal proceedings. This should be listed as part-time contract role, remote, and they must be licensed in the state of Delaware. Debt Defense / FDCPA experience is a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare, draft, and file a wide range of legal pleadings, including but not limited to answers, motions, oppositions, and other court filings, in compliance with Delaware court rules and deadlines.
- Manage and maintain an assigned caseload, ensuring timely handling of all matters, proper documentation, and adherence to internal and court-imposed deadlines.
- Conduct monthly reviews of settlements to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with client and organizational objectives.
- Provide legal analysis, knowledge, and practical guidance on case strategy, procedural requirements, and substantive legal issues.
- Perform legal research and stay current on relevant Delaware laws, regulations, and case law.
- Communicate effectively with opposing counsel, and Litigation staff regarding case status, strategy, and outcomes.
- Ensure all work products meet
- high standards of quality, professionalism, and ethical compliance under Delaware Bar rules.
- Assist with negotiations and settlement discussions as needed.
- Maintain organized case files and records in accordance with firm or organizational policies.
- Appear at court hearings, and other proceedings as needed or when possible.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Must have a JD degree from an accredited law school12.
- Must be admitted to the state bar and in good standing to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction
- Extensive experience practicing law, often 10+ years, with a strong background in corporate law, litigation, and regulatory compliance
- Proven leadership and management experience, particularly in leading legal teams and working with senior executives
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively advise and interact with executives, board members, and external stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate complex legal issues and provide strategic advice
- High ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
