The Design and Release Engineer will be responsible for developing automotive components and systems from initial concept through full-volume production. The role includes design ownership, coordination with internal and external teams, and ensuring timely release, validation, and production readiness of components.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop components and systems from concept, design, and validation through production launch
Provide feasibility input on concepts from Product Design Office (PDO), sketches, and clay models
Establish and manage development timelines throughout the project lifecycle
Define and manage functional objectives, build objectives, DVPR, and DFMEA for assigned components
Lead the design process while coordinating with internal CAD teams and external design partners
Release final component geometry using Teamcenter / NX CAD tools
Support virtual validation using CAE tools and coordinate physical validation at component, system, and vehicle levels
Manage and maintain release documentation and engineering records
Plan and support tool development and oversee part readiness for production
Provide on-site support during vehicle pilot builds and production launch at assembly plants
Perform root cause analysis and drive corrective actions for issues related to fit, finish, assembly, and functionality
Analyze warranty issues, support cost reduction initiatives, and improve production efficiency
Prepare and support safety compliance documentation and reports
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
3–5 years of experience in automotive product development or design & release engineering
Hands-on experience with Teamcenter and NX CAD
Good understanding of DVPR, DFMEA, GD&T, and automotive development processes
Experience coordinating with CAE, manufacturing, and supplier teams
Knowledge of vehicle build, validation, and launch activities
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers
Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
Good communication and stakeholder coordination abilities
Familiarity with assembly plant support and production launches
