Tech Lead Manager, Frontend
The Role
As ComfyUI’s Frontend Tech Lead Manager, you will shape our user interface and lead a team of frontend engineers. You will own the architecture and development of our core UI, ensuring ComfyUI’s interfaces are fast, robust, and user-friendly. You will remain technically hands-on where it adds leverage, while focusing primarily on architecture, technical direction, and team leadership. In short, you will help define the future of ComfyUI’s frontend experience from prototyping new ideas to shipping polished releases.
What you’ll do
Lead frontend architecture: Drive the design and development of ComfyUI’s core frontend systems from the ground up. Set the long-term vision for how our interface is structured and evolves.
Technical leadership: Contribute to key technical and product decisions as part of the leadership/engineering team. Drive architectural discussions and ensure alignment across the stack.
Mentor & grow the team: Mentor and manage frontend engineers, fostering a high-caliber team and strong engineering culture. Help recruit, hire, and onboard new members.
Define best practices: Establish and enforce best practices for frontend code quality, testing, performance, and maintainability. Maintain, evolve, and improve our CI/CD and automated testing process to keep our front-end rock-solid as we scale.
Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with Product, Design, Backend, AI/ML to shape the end-to-end user experience. You’ll translate complex requirements into elegant interfaces and connect the frontend to our generative AI pipelines.
Project planning & execution: Oversee project execution by setting timelines, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely delivery of frontend milestones. Balance short-term goals with long-term technical health.
Prototype & iterate: Rapidly build and iterate on UI features to test new concepts, validate user flows, and ensure a polished end-user experience. You’ll turn product ideas into working prototypes and refine them into production features.
Stay on the cutting edge: Keep up-to-date with the latest frontend technologies and trends. Evaluate new tools, libraries, or approaches (e.g. improvements in Vue.js, TypeScript, tooling like Vite/Nx, or UI frameworks) to keep ComfyUI’s frontend modern and scalable.
Quality & optimization: Identify and troubleshoot frontend performance bottlenecks. Optimize for speed, responsiveness, and accessibility across our UI. Advocate for users and ensure that every interface feels polished and intuitive.
Must-have experience
Engineering leadership: 6+ years of software engineering experience, including several years in a senior role (Tech Lead or Engineering Manager). Proven track record leading or mentoring engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
Shipping large-scale apps: Demonstrated experience building and shipping complex, high-performance web applications (and preferably cross-platform desktop apps). You’ve taken products or features from 0→1 to production, serving real users at scale.
Frontend expertise: Deep expertise with modern frontend frameworks and languages in our stack - Vue 3, Typescript, (plus Vite, Tailwind, Electron, etc.)
Performance & UX: Strong understanding of UI/UX principles. You know how to build fast, responsive, and accessible interfaces. You pay attention to the details (animations, layouts, interactions) that make a UI feel refined.
Tooling & processes: Hands-on experience with frontend build tools, module bundlers, and modern development workflows. Comfortable setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code review processes. Familiarity with tools like Vite, Nx, Jest, Playwright, or similar is valuable.
Ownership & communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills. You take ownership of your projects, can articulate technical ideas clearly, and drive initiatives end-to-end. You thrive in a small team where everyone wears multiple hats.
Passion & mindset: A startup mindset – you thrive in fast-moving environments, love solving hard problems, and are willing to roll up your sleeves wherever needed. You care deeply about building a great product and enjoy working closely with teammates who are just as passionate.

We are a small, intense, and well-funded team in San Francisco who push ComfyUI and its ecosystem forward. Our team comes from Stability AI and Google and many contributed to the ComfyUI ecosystem way before working here.
Our organization is flat and there is no hierarchy, only categories: devv, artz, prod, oprt, etc (and no, there is no one here with the title of Member of Technical Staff, it’s long and silly for a job title).
