POSITION SUMMARY
The Freight Elevator Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and secure movement of materials, equipment, and personnel throughout the building. This position is responsible for operating all freight elevators, assisting contractors and delivery personnel, and maintaining a clean and orderly freight environment. The role requires strong physical stamina, the ability to lift and maneuver heavy materials, and strict adherence to building security protocols. The Freight Elevator Operator supports daily building operations, construction activities, and tenant moves while providing excellent service to staff, visitors, and contractors. Additional duties include performing periodic cleaning tasks, supporting inclement weather operations, completing detailed incident reports, and following management direction to maintain smooth building operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Run all Freight elevators in the buildingEnsure all Visitors have security clearance before accessing freightStand for long periods of time without a breakPick up trash and bring it to designated area during the day Assist contractors with loading and unloading elevatorPush container to and from cars that weigh in excess of 100lbsMove control levers or push buttons to control movement of the elevatorTransport freight from elevator to designated area using hand truck if neededWork overtime hours if needed for projects including construction projects and/or Tenant movesClean up freight areas and landing after construction/ demo projects and ensure all landings are mopped clean before leavingMove/ lift heavy materials (construction containers)Contact management for any delivery that is not authorizedMonitor removal of material from BuildingEnsure building passes are current and approved by BMO Periodically spot check and mop interior stairwells as neededOperate elevator to transport materials, equipment and/or passengers between floors of the buildingRespond to calls going up and down as needed; give passage to building staff, construction workers and daily deliveriesPeriodically clean and vacuum elevator tracks to ensure proper door closing at elevator landingAssist deliveries being pulled into freight/ pushed out on floors, if neededAssist staff in inclement weather, up to and including snow removal (shoveling/ snow blowing, de-icing, etc.)Use additional force to operate/ close freight doors when needed (interior updraft)Provide detailed accident reports to Management, when neededObtain Fire Safety Director Certificate (FSD) if neededWork as directed by supervisor
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Success in this role means consistently operating all freight elevators safely and efficiently while maintaining strict safety and security protocols for visitors, contractors, and deliveries. It involves providing professional and proactive service, keeping all freight areas clean and organized, and demonstrating the physical stamina required to move heavy materials throughout the day. A successful operator is dependable, punctual, and adaptable to overtime or changing building needs. They respond quickly to calls, support building operations—including during inclement weather—and document incidents accurately while exercising good judgment in handling unauthorized deliveries or safety concerns.
