Job Description
As the General Manager of Duetti Japan, you will lead the physical launch and growth of
Duetti’s presence in Japan, overseeing all operations and business development initiatives in the
region. You will be responsible for establishing Duetti’s Tokyo office, building and managing the
local team, including A&R and sourcing personnel, and positioning Duetti as a trusted and
innovative partner within Japan’s music ecosystem.
Working closely with Duetti’s executive leadership team in the U.S., you will shape and execute
the company’s Japan market entry strategy, identifying key opportunities for catalog acquisitions,
brand partnerships, and artist financing. You’ll bring deep relationships across the Japanese
music industry and a track record of leadership in scaling teams, closing high-impact deals, and
driving brand growth. This role is ideal for an entrepreneurial, senior music executive who
thrives at the intersection of music, business strategy, and innovation.
You Will:
Lead the launch and establishment of Duetti’s Tokyo office, including recruiting and managing the local team and ensuring smooth operational setupDrive Duetti’s business development strategy in Japan, identifying and closing deals with artists, labels, distributors, and other key stakeholdersOversee and mentor the Japan A&R team with the Head of Sourcing, setting targets, guiding deal execution, and fostering a high-performance culture aligned with Duetti’s global standardsRepresent Duetti publicly at industry events, conferences, and media opportunities in Japan to build awareness and trust in the brandCollaborate with Duetti’s global leadership in the US to align on growth strategy, reporting, and cross-market initiativesDevelop strategic partnerships with Japanese DSPs, collecting societies, and industry associations to position Duetti as a long-term player in the regionManage P&L responsibilities for the Japan office, ensuring growth, compliance, and efficiencyUse data-driven insights and local market knowledge to refine Duetti’s acquisition and investment strategy for Japanese catalogsMonitor regulatory, cultural, and market trends to inform strategy and ensure compliancewith local business practices
Requirements:
10+ years of experience in a senior role within the Japanese music industry at a label, publisher, management company, DSP, or music finance entity, with strong relationships across the artist and rights-owner ecosystemExperience hiring, managing, and developing teamsProven leadership experience in launching or scaling a business unit or market operation, preferably in JapanDeep understanding of the Japanese music and entertainment market, including its structure, deal types, and cultural nuancesStrong commercial acumen with experience leading negotiations and managing P&LExceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire teams and influence senior stakeholdersEntrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, start-up environmentFluent in Japanese and English, both written and spoken, and experience working with American companiesBachelor’s degree in music, business, media, or a related fieldPassion for innovation in music finance and technology
