About the role
The Global Payroll & Benefits Manager is responsible for the accurate, compliant, and timely delivery of payroll and benefits administration across multiple countries. This role combines operational excellence with strong stakeholder management, ensuring employees are paid correctly and receive a positive experience across payroll, benefits, and related statutory processes.
The role will work closely with HR Operation teams, Finance, external payroll providers, and benefit vendors to ensure compliance with local legislation and alignment with global HR policies and standards
Key Responsibilities
International Payroll Management
- Own end-to-end payrolls across 11 different countries for around 500 employees, working closely with the HR Operations team.
- Oversee relationships with numerous external payroll providers, ensuring service quality, accuracy, and SLA adherence.
- Develop and oversee payroll calendars, cut-off dates, approvals, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with local tax, social security, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Review payroll reports, variance analysis, and reconciliations prior to sign-off.
- Partner closely with Finance to support payroll funding, accruals, audits, and year-end processes.
- Lead payroll audits (internal and external) and support statutory inspections.
- Monitor legislative changes and assess payroll impacts across regions.
Benefits Administration
- Manage day-to-day benefits administration across multiple countries, including:
- Health & medical plans
- Pensions / retirement plans
- Life assurance and income protection
- Statutory and voluntary benefits
- Act as the primary point of contact for benefit providers and brokers.
- Ensure accurate setup and maintenance of employee benefits data in HR and payroll systems.
- Coordinate annual benefits renewal processes and open enrolment activities.
- Support benefits communications and employee queries in partnership with HR.
- Ensure benefits arrangements are compliant with local legislation and aligned with global benefit frameworks.
Governance, Controls & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with the Global Head of HR Operations on payroll process transformation initiatives aimed at improving accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all regions.
- Support to drive the transition from manual or legacy payroll processes to automated, standardized workflows and digital solutions.
- Oversee payroll technology enhancements—including system upgrades, integrations, and configuration changes—to support end-to-end payroll modernization.
- Maintain payroll and benefits SOPs, process documentation, and controls.
- Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and system efficiencies.
- Support payroll and benefits projects, including country expansions, vendor changes, and system implementations.
- Manage data integrity, confidentiality, and GDPR compliance across payroll and benefits.
- Produce payroll and benefits reporting, KPIs, and management information.
Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with the HR Operations team to ensure that all payroll changes are captured and payrolls are checked
- Partner closely with HR Business Partners, People Ops teams, and Finance colleagues globally.
- Provide expert guidance on payroll and benefits matters to HR and business leaders.
- Escalate risks, issues, and non-compliance proactively, proposing practical solutions
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience managing international payroll across multiple countries.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll compliance, tax, and statutory requirements.
- Hands-on experience administering employee benefits in a multinational environment.
- Experience working with external payroll and benefits providers.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience working with HRIS and payroll systems.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines across different time zones.
Desirable
- Professional qualification in payroll, HR, or finance (e.g. CIPP, CIPD, ACCA).
- Experience supporting global or regional HR Operations teams.
- Experience with system implementations or payroll transformations.
- Knowledge of benefits harmonisation or global benefits frameworks.
