About the Role 🤔
We’re looking for a Head of Engineering to define and execute the engineering strategy behind Quad Lock’s global product portfolio. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, this role will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team across mechanical and electronic engineering, test and validation and compliance.
Working closely with Product Design, Manufacturing, Operations, and Program Management, you'll drive innovation, technical excellence and operational performance to deliver market-leading products at scale.
What You'll Do 🤝
Engineering Strategy, Leadership & Collaboration
Define and execute a long-term engineering roadmap aligned with company growth and innovation goals.
Build and lead high-performing, cross-functional engineering teams across mechanical, electrical, firmware, test and validation and certification disciplines.
Establish scalable engineering processes, tools, and governance frameworks and integrate into the overarching Quad Lock Product Development Process
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Support the implementation of PDM/PLM (Windchill) across the Engineering team.
Promote truly collaborative ways of working across product development stakeholders.
Product Development & Innovation
Oversee the engineering aspects of New Product Development - from concept and prototyping through validation, tooling, compliance and mass production.
Drive best-in-class design for durability, reliability, and performance in demanding environments (cycling, moto, automotive).
Lead advanced engineering initiatives including materials innovation, electronics integration, and connected product capabilities.
Ensure robust testing, validation, and compliance across global markets.
Build engineering capability (people and processes) to support OEM programs (cycle, moto and automotive).
Ongoing assessment of current product performance and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives as required.
Operational Excellence
Partner with Manufacturing to optimise Design for Manufacture (DFM), product cost, and production scalability
Disciplined approach to the stage-gate process and risk management frameworks.
Continuously seek opportunities to improve speed-to-market while maintaining premium product standards.
Partner with Manufacturing to lead supplier technical engagement and manufacturing partner collaboration.
Test and Validation Engineering
Lead the test and validation engineering function, providing guidance on best practices for testing and quality assurance.
Lead the expansion of Quad Lock’s in-house testing capability in Melbourne.
Compliance and Certification
Define and execute a regulatory and compliance roadmap for the current and future product portfolio.
Ensure products comply with relevant international and regional regulations.
Coordinate product recalls, corrective actions, and root cause investigations, where necessary.
What You'll Bring 🎯
10+ years in product engineering leadership within consumer hardware, accessories, mobility, or outdoor categories.
Strong background in mechanical engineering or similar discipline; experience in electronics and embedded systems highly regarded.
Demonstrated success building and scaling engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
Proven experience bringing complex physical products from concept to mass production.
Commercial acumen and ability to balance performance, cost, and time-to-market.
Proficiency in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent).
Strong knowledge of injection moulding, metals, plastics, elastomers, and assembly processes.
Strong understanding of DFM, DFA and GD&T.
Experience working with offshore manufacturers (Asia experience highly regarded).
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and stakeholder management capability.
Proficiency in PDM/PLM systems – implementation experience is an advantage.
A minimum Bachelor's degree is required in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
