The Deputy Chief Financial Officer is a senior finance leadership role responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial control, regulatory reporting, and the operational finance function within a regulated jurisdiction, while supporting the Group CFO on capital planning, finance transformation initiatives, and engagement with regulatory stakeholders.
This position acts as a close deputy to the Group CFO and requires a hands-on, technically strong, and commercially minded finance professional. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a high-growth, regulated insurance environment, managing evolving structures, limited resources, and demanding timelines. Key responsibilities are as shown below:
Financial Control & Reporting (Bermuda Focus)
- Own and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close for the Bermuda entity
- Ensure accurate preparation of management accounts, statutory financial statements (full set of financial statements and note disclosures in compliance with relevant accounting standards), and regulatory reporting, including preparation of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and management reporting
- Maintain strong financial controls, reconciliations, and documentation appropriate for regulatory and audit scrutiny
- Lead financial reporting and filings required by the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA)
- Support preparation of regulatory submissions, including financial components of licence applications and supervisory reviews
- Work closely with auditors and external advisors to deliver timely and efficient audits
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Bermuda insurance regulatory, solvency, and capital requirements, in coordination with actuarial and risk functions
- Act as a primary finance contact for regulators, auditors, and external advisors in Bermuda
- Lead the transition project to bring the financial reporting process in-house
Capital, Solvency & Actuarial Interface
- Partner with the Group CFO, Chief Actuary, and Risk function on capital adequacy, solvency monitoring, financial projections, stress testing, and scenario analysis
- Assess product profitability and reserving implications from a financial perspective
- Translate actuarial and technical outputs into clear financial and commercial insights for senior management and the Board
Treasury, Cash & Operational Finance (Bermuda Focus)
- Oversee cash management, treasury operations, day-to-day finance operations including accounting, reporting, accounts payable/receivable, and liquidity planning for Bermuda entities
- Support the implementation and ongoing oversight of banking, payment, and custody structures, including where digital assets or alternative instruments are involved
- Ensure controls over premiums, claims, reinsurance settlements, and operating expenses
Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Partnering
- Support Group CFO in preparing annual budget and rolling forecast processes
- Provide variance analysis and forward-looking insights to support management decision-making
- Act as a finance partner to senior stakeholders, balancing growth objectives with regulatory, capital, and risk considerations
Governance, Controls & Process Build-Out
- Design, implement, and continuously improve finance policies, processes, and internal controls suitable for a growing insurance platform
- Contribute finance input to Board, Audit Committee, and Risk Committee materials
- Support the Group CFO in strengthening finance governance, operating model, and control environment as the business scales
- Partner with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows, strengthen controls, and improve operational efficiency
Team Leadership
- Set clear standards for quality, accountability, and delivery in a lean operating environment
- Provide continuity and stability within the local finance function as the organisation grows
Key Stakeholders
- Group CFO, CEO, and Bermuda General Manager
- Board, Audit Committee, and Risk Committee
- Bermuda Monetary Authority and other external regulators
- External auditors, actuaries, legal counsel, and advisory firms
- Internal actuarial, risk, operations, and product teams
What you’ll need
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent)
- 12+ years of progressive experience in senior finance roles within life insurance industry, or other regulated financial services
- Strong insurance accounting knowledge and experienced in BMA regulatory reporting, and solvency reporting
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS 17 and hand-on experience on finance-change project
- Proven experience engaging with regulators, auditors, and senior executive stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in lean, fast-changing environments such as growth companies, transformations, or new entities
- Prior experience in Bermuda or comparable insurance jurisdictions
- Exposure to start-up, scale-up, or new licence environments
- Experience working closely with actuarial teams on solvency, reserving, and capital matters
- Comfort operating within an international, multi-entity group structure
- Structured, and resilient under pressure
- High integrity and sound judgement in regulated environments
- Comfortable operating both hands-on and at a strategic level
- Able to challenge constructively while remaining pragmatic and solutions-oriented
