Head-Royce School is seeking an internal candidate for the part-time role of Middle School and Upper School Student Support Teacher. This person will work with both Middle School and Upper School students to support learning needs. This person is responsible for providing targeted academic support for students through coaching, organization support, and coordination with teachers and advisors. This position reports to the Interim Head of Upper School. This is a part-time position and a 1-year appointment.
Support students with homework completion, long-term project planning, and academic skill development.
Provide individualized and small-group support focused on executive functioning skills, including organization, time management, planning, task initiation, and study strategies.
Facilitate both drop-in tutoring sessions and scheduled support for students referred by Deans or the Student Support Team.
Help students develop sustainable academic habits and independence rather than short-term task completion.
Monitor student progress and communicate patterns of concern or growth with appropriate school personnel.
Partner closely with Learning Specialists, Counselors, Deans, Advisors, and Teachers to support students who would benefit from additional academic structure.
Communicate thoughtfully and clearly with students, families, and colleagues, seeking to understand each others’ perspectives.
Partner with families formally and informally to support student growth and executive functioning development.
Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in which students feel safe seeking help.
Contribute to a culture of belonging and support aligned with Head-Royce’s commitment to equity and community.
Work closely with colleagues across the school, including the Student Wellness team (counselors and learning specialists), Division Coordinator, Athletic Department, CCE, College Counseling, and Department Chairs.
A genuine desire to connect personally with adolescents and build strong, trusting relationships.
The ability to advocate for students while holding them accountable to high expectations.
Strong understanding of executive functioning skills and strategies for supporting student organization and independence in grades 6-12.
Ability to support students in all grades 6-12 and in all subject matters.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Patience, empathy, kindness, resilience, and a healthy sense of humor.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Ideally, 5 years of teaching or student support experience, preferably with middle and upper school students.
Demonstrated experience supporting students with executive functioning, organization, and study strategies.
Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Head-Royce School, with particular emphasis on equity, belonging, and community.
Before school, minimum three days a week, from 7:30-8:25am. Days tbd.
After school, minimum three days a week, from 3:30-5:30pm. Days tbd.
MS study hall period, 2:30-3:15pm, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
