POSITION SUMMARY
The Multifamily Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial reporting of each property within ESRT’s multifamily property portfolio. This person will also be an instrumental person in shaping our accounting processes as we further build out our multifamily platform. This position requires a self-starter with strong analytical skills, relevant multifamily accounting experience, and the ability to work well within multiple teams. A successful candidate will have recent work experience as a manager in multifamily and NYC affordable housing and this position will report to Controller, Multifamily and Managed Assets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee and review the monthly reporting process and the packages submitted by the property accountants for the multifamily properties, including the following (while the Multifamily Accounting Manager will, for the most part, be reviewing information and schedules prepared by the property accountants, where applicable, the Multifamily Accounting Manager may be the preparer of certain schedules and reports)Supervise property accountants and provide leadership, coaching, and review work performedAssist property accountants in close procedures and other time sensitive tasks as requiredIntegrate with property management to ensure they have access to timely and accurate information while also coaching the property management team to utilize Yardi and related systems in a way which allows efficient processing by the property accounting teamAnalyze closing workpapers to validate trial balance support and accuracyEvaluate variance reporting packages and identify key drivers and discrepanciesOversee account reconciliations, roll forwards, and supporting schedules to ensure completeness and accuracyApprove and provide oversight of monthly journal entries, including period-end accruals and reversalsValidate operating expense, contract, and utility accrual calculationsMonitor and reconcile security deposit activityEnsure proper expense coding and accurate recording of transactionsPrepare certain quarterly reporting schedules and deliverablesReview and approve invoices and corresponding G/L codingIdentify issues, trends, bottlenecks, and efficiency opportunities; recommend and implement process improvementsSeek out inconsistencies and standardize best practices across portfolioChallenge status quo of work performed and strive to concentrate team’s time on most value-add activitiesOversee and provide support schedules and documents for internal and external audits and for annual preparation of the TC201s and RPIEsAssist with the annual budget preparationDevelop a complete understanding of Yardi software (Voyager and Rent Café) and other residential softwareLead accounting transition and implementation for any multifamily assets we may acquire and serve as the property accountant for such properties until a multifamily property accountant is assigned or hiredCoordinate with HR on hiring process and related decisions to build out our multifamily accounting support teamEnsure internal controls are being adhered to and provide recommendations on improvementsComplete ad hoc projectsAssist in the review of financial reporting on assets excluded from the REIT portfolio

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
Excellent management and supervisory skillsProficient in accounting systems, Yardi Systems is a plusProficient in Microsoft Office, with strong skills in ExcelStrong analytical and communication skills (oral and written)Detailed-orientedMust be comfortable working autonomously and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment and be highly conscientious of deadlines
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
BA/BS degree in AccountingMinimum of 6+ years multifamily accounting experience Minimum of 3+ years of managerial or supervisory experienceReal estate experience: multifamily experience is requiredCertifications such as CPA or CMA is a plus
