Principal Test Equipment Design Engineer – Secret Clearance Eligible

Overview
Seeking a Principal Test Equipment Design Engineer to join a sensor test solutions organization supporting the development, integration, and deployment of advanced test platforms and architectures. This role is ideal for engineers with strong electrical design and software automation backgrounds who want hands-on involvement in building complex test systems used in manufacturing, production, and field environments.
The selected engineer will support test solution development across multiple programs and gain exposure to the full lifecycle of test system development—from requirements definition through verification and final system sell-off.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deploy complex factory and production test systems in collaboration with internal and external partners
  • Lead development of test hardware, software, and firmware from requirements definition through deployment at manufacturing or customer facilities
  • Develop test capabilities across multiple disciplines:
    • Power
    • RF
    • Analog
    • Digital
    • Embedded software / firmware
  • Work with engineering, production, and operations teams early in the development cycle to define manufacturing test capability and capacity needs
  • Identify test readiness issues and optimization opportunities throughout the development lifecycle
  • Lead medium-to-large sized teams to meet project budget, schedule, and performance objectives
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers supporting test development activities
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote technical growth across the team
  • Prepare and present project status to functional and program leadership
  • Track and report financial and Earned Value status during monthly reporting cycles
  • Proactively manage risks and opportunities
  • Support manufacturing operations, including on-site troubleshooting and debugging
  • Collaborate with design engineering teams to resolve test and production issues
  • Contribute to cost, schedule, and technical inputs for bid and proposal development
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Minimum 4 years of direct experience with test equipment design and development
  • Experience working in an engineering design and development environment
  • Experience leading technical teams and projects
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Active and transferable U.S. government security clearance or ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance prior to start
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience using project management tools such as:
    • MS Project
    • Jira / Confluence
    • Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with National Instruments tools:
    • TestStand
    • LabWindows/CVI
    • LabVIEW
  • Experience designing Digital, Analog, RF, and/or Power Supply test hardware
  • Experience automating and routinely using commercial test and measurement equipment, including:
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Digital Multimeters (DMMs)
    • Network analyzers
    • Power supplies
