At Union, we are solving one of the hardest challenges in AI infrastructure today: enabling high-velocity iteration while maintaining seamless production-readiness for AI workloads at scale.
Flyte, the open-source project we steward, has emerged as the modern standard for data and AI orchestration, and is trusted by leading technology organizations including LinkedIn, Stripe, and Wayve to run millions of mission-critical workflows on the platform. These workflows comprise data preparation, model training, and scaled inference spanning thousands of GPUs, all major clouds, and on-premise infrastructure.
We have a technical founding team who created Flyte while at Lyft, a deep bench of infrastructure experts from top companies, and have raised from top investors like NEA and Nava Ventures.
We are seeking a technical, customer-obsessed Product Manager to own the platform operator experience for Union: the end-to-end journey of how customers evaluate, deploy, configure, and operate Union in their Kubernetes and cloud/on-prem environments.
This is not an internal “platform PM” role. Your primary stakeholders are Platform Operators (customer AI/ML platform teams, SREs, and DevOps engineers) who are the first people to interact with Union while trialing, deploying, and managing the platform.
Your charter is to make Union feel like it was designed with platform operators in mind – from the first CLI command, to a production-ready installation, to day-2 operations and observability – while scaling sustainably across a growing deployment matrix.
You will work directly with the CEO and engineering leadership to set product direction, and you will be expected to operate with a high degree of independence. While your primary ownership area is the platform operator experience, you should bring the product intuition and breadth to flex across the full product portfolio as the company’s needs evolve.
You will own the Union platform interface used by platform operators, including:
Evaluation & onboarding: local sandbox / quickstart flows, “first successful run” experience, installation prerequisites, and guided setup.
Distribution & packaging: the supported install surface (e.g., Helm chart interfaces, configuration model, versioning/upgrade story, validation, and release ergonomics).
Diagnostics & reliability tooling: CLI diagnostics, preflight checks, and logging that reduce time-to-resolution.
Operational observability: health and status views for the Union control plane and runtime path; clear mental models for clusters, namespaces, capacity, and workload placement.
Supported deployment matrix: deciding what we support (and how), then making it excellent – balancing flexibility with operational scalability.
Enterprise customer engagement: Engage directly with enterprise prospects and customers to run discovery sessions, design partnerships, and feedback loops. Translate field insights into product priorities and validate roadmap decisions against real customer pain.
Go-to-market collaboration: Partner with sales, solutions engineering, and customer success to define positioning, packaging, and enablement for the operator experience. Own the product narrative for your area.
A successful PM in this role drives a visible step-change on three axes:
World-class onboarding + operations for platform operators
Platform teams can go from “heard about Union” → “deployed safely” → “confident operating it” with minimal friction, clear docs, and crisp tooling.
A broader, clearer supported deployment surface area
We expand where Union can be deployed reliably (across clouds/on‑prem and common enterprise environments) while reducing one‑off “snowflake” deployments.
A “paved road” that reduces friction and improves architectural efficiency
We deliver default configurations that “just work” for mid‑market teams, while still allowing deep customization for large enterprises – and we reduce ongoing KTLO by turning recurring one‑offs into scalable abstractions.
4–5+ years of technical product management experience on developer tools, infrastructure platforms, or deployment/distribution systems, with proven ownership of a product area through the full lifecycle: discovery → strategy → delivery → adoption.
Deep ML/AI orchestration domain knowledge: You understand the workflows your customers are building – data preparation, model training, experiment tracking, and inference at scale – and can reason about how platform decisions affect the end-to-end AI development lifecycle.
Product taste: A track record of shipping opinionated, high-craft, end-to-end experiences that delight technical users.
Engineering empathy: You build credibility with senior engineers and can drive alignment through clear specs and crisp tradeoffs.
Data-informed decision making: You use qualitative and quantitative signals to prioritize, measure success, and iterate.
Influence without authority: You align engineering, design, and customer-facing stakeholders around a shared vision and plan through clear thinking, persuasion, and earned trust – not positional power. You thrive working directly with executive leadership without needing a large team around you.
Experience shipping infrastructure products deployed into customers’ clouds (BYOC) or on-prem environments.
Prior software engineering background in infra/platform/SRE/DevOps.
Experience designing “paved road” defaults alongside escape hatches for enterprise customization.
Experience building diagnostics, onboarding flows, and operator-grade observability for self-serve products.
Hands-on experience with ML/AI workflow orchestration tools(e.g., Flyte, Airflow, Kubeflow, Prefect, Dagster, Ray, or similar) as a builder or power user.
Experience in a high-growth startup (Series A–C) where you wore multiple hats and operated with high autonomy.
