- Conduct initial assessments including mental status examinations and pharmacological evaluations
- Prescribe medications only after ensuring a thorough assessment is done to rule out medical or other causes as contributary factors to presenting symptoms.
- Clinicians who understand that clients are unique in every way and must be treated as such.
- Ensure careful considering when prescribing to ensure the benefits of medications outweigh the risks
- Provide services to clients based on current status, risk, and as clinically indicated
- Support staff to provide recovery-oriented and trauma-informed services
- Participate in staff meetings
- Provide crisis intervention services supporting staff as needed
- Communicate with hospital ER attending when clients access emergency services
- Support and coordinate discharge planning with hospital and ER staff to ensure a smooth transition in care
- Conduct risk assessment, provide guidance and direction on risk management
- Use e-prescribing
- Complete progress notes, significant events, referrals, and evaluations within expected timeframes
- Provide individual counseling as part of the plan of care if and when needed
- Use Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and data reports from EMR to track treatment progress and individual client outcomes
- Provide crisis intervention services
- Use collaborative documentation procedures for assessment and individual sessions with clients
- Communicate with other healthcare providers and deliver integrated treatment in coordination with external providers.
- Work in collaboration with the client and significant others to support recovery goals
- Provide psychotherapy individual and group
Qualifications
- Valid Maryland, DC or Virginia license for practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner;
- Extensive experience working with people with serious mental illness, and co-occurring substance use disorders, and primary health care problems
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Eligible to obtain and maintain employment
