Contract Duration: June 28 to August 9, 2026 (full-time employment)
Duration of Junior Camp Program: 4-6 weeks – June 28 to August 9, 2026
Description:
Activity leaders inject life into the activities program of an ILSC Junior Camp. They provide an experience which is fun, engaging and culturally enriching for students. They supervise the students outside the classroom, overseeing their welfare, safety, and discipline always.
The ILSC Junior Camp at UBC requires 2 Activity Leadership Teams:
- UBC On-site Activity Leaders who live at UBC with the students and lead on-site activities and supervise students during their on-site activities
- UBC Off-Site Activity Leaders who live off-campus and supervise students on off-site excursions and field trips
Work Schedule and Timeline
The Activity Leader role is a full-time, fixed-term position. Due to the nature of the work, your hours may vary and may be irregular
UBC On-site Activity Leaders
- Full time hours on-site at UBC will begin on June 28, 2026, until August 9, 2026
- Pre-program staff training at UBC will take place from June 25, 2026, to June 26, 2026,at the ILSC Vancouver Campus.
- Your weekly work schedule will consist of six consecutive days of work, followed by one full day off per week
- Accommodation and meals are included while the Junior Camp is in operation from June 28-August 9, 2025
- Compensation is $750/week
UBC Off-site Activity Leaders
- Full time hours on-site at UBC will begin on June 29, 2026, until August 8, 2026
- Pre-program staff training at UBC will take place from June 25, 2026, to June 26, 2026at the ILSC Vancouver campus
- Your weekly work schedule will consist of greeting students upon their arrival and accompanying them back to UBC residence (typically on Sundays) as well as accompany them to the airport on their departure day (typically on Sundays)
- Supervising students on their weekday off-site activities on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons from 1:00 PM-6:00 PM
- Supervising students on their full-day weekend activities from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM (may vary depending on activity)
- Compensation is $20.00/hour
Job Duties:
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
UBC On-site Activity Leaders
- Greet students at airport upon their arrival and accompany them back to UBC residence on a rotational basis
- Accompany students from UBC residence to airport for their departure on a rotational basis
- Welcome students staying in residence on their first Sunday, assisting with their welcome orientation, checking into their rooms, and leading initial ‘getting to know you’ activities as directed by the Activity Coordinator
- Lead art, dance, drama, or sports activities, encouraging student participation with enthusiasm and leading by example
- Supervise the ‘going to bed’ and ‘getting up’ routines, morning and afternoon breaks, evening mealtimes, on a rotational basis
- Ensure the health and safety, welfare, and discipline of students, by being attentive to incidents of discrimination, bullying, or conflict between students and alerting the Junior Camp management staff-the Centre Director, Activity Coordinator, or Academic Manager of any issues
- Monitor the whereabouts of students through taking attendance at set meeting times, ensuring that curfews are kept and bed-times respected
- Complete student attendance reports as required and advise the Junior Camp management team of any absences or lateness or behavioral issues
- Attend daily staff meetings for to review the day’s activities and to plan for the following day
- Assist the Activity Coordinator, and on occasion agents and accreditation inspectors, in the observation and evaluation of activities
- Supervise the departure of the students on their departure day, checking beds and facilities, collecting keys as appropriate, escorting students and luggage to pick-up points at agreed times.
- Assist with arrivals and departures of students, checking bedrooms and facilities, escorting students on airport transfers as and when required etc.
- Responsible for tracking and maintaining receipts.

Off-site Activity Leaders
- Greet students at airport upon their arrival and accompany them back to UBC residence on a rotational basis
- Accompany students from UBC residence to airport for their departure on a rotational basis
- Welcome students staying in residence on their first Sunday, assisting with their welcome orientation, checking into their rooms, and leading initial ‘getting to know you’ activities as directed by the Activity Coordinator
- Attend daily staff meetings to review the day’s activities and to plan for the following day
- Supervise students during assigned activities and groups during excursions
- Ensure the health and safety, welfare, and discipline of students, by being attentive to incidents of discrimination, bullying, or conflict between students and alerting the Junior Camp management staff-the Centre Director, Activity Coordinator, or Academic Manager of any issues
- Complete student attendance reports as required and advise the Junior Camp management team of any absences or lateness or behavioural issues
- Assist the Activity Coordinator, and on occasion, the agents and accreditation inspectors, in the observation and evaluation of activities
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:
Essential
- Experience working with teenagers in a camp or residential environment
- Background in sports, art, drama, or dance, or social media
Desirable
- CPR / First Aid / Lifeguard certification
- Bilingualism: English

- Medical records and immunization reports may be required
