Headquartered in Toronto, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is responsible for investing in new infrastructure projects. The CIB’s mission is to work with provincial, territorial, municipal, federal, Indigenous and private sector investor partners to transform the way infrastructure is planned, financed and delivered in Canada.
The Senior Financial Analyst (“SFA”), will report to the Manager(s), Finance, and will contribute meaningfully to both the CIB’s (i) Financial Reporting and (ii) Financial Planning and Analysis functions. The SFA will strive to improve data literacy within the finance function, enhancing data accessibility and analytical capabilities while ensuring transparency and traceability of all data.
Your responsibilities include:
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Assist with the development of the annual operating and capital budget and long-term financial plans
- Design and manage centralized data sets and financial planning tools that enable scenario modelling, sensitivity analysis and dynamic forecasting
- Ensure data consistency and alignment across budgets, forecasts and actuals
- Aggregate and analyse financial data and performance metrics/key financial indicators to provide insights and recommendations
Financial Reporting
- Prepare and support quarter-end and year-end financial reporting schedules in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards, including notes and analysis related to the financial statements and board reporting
- Manage, validate and reconcile financial and loan data from multiple systems and sources to ensure accuracy and completeness of reporting outputs
- Assist in evaluating the classification, valuation and measurement of each CIB investment, and its impact on the CIB’s financial statements
- Strive to design and implement automation solutions using tools such as Power Query, Power BI, etc., or scripting within reporting systems
- Develop and maintain automated financial statement models, reporting templates, reconciliations and journal entry processes to streamline reporting processes, including those to support amortized cost calculations
- Collaborate with IT and finance teams to improve system integration, data extraction and workflow orchestration
- Document processes, data flows and controls to ensure automation aligns with audit and compliance requirements
Other
- Assist in implementing continuous process improvement strategies, including opportunities for automation and/or streamlining
- Contribute to special projects, process improvement initiatives, internal communication and financial system optimization
Your ideal profile:
- University degree, in business, accounting or finance, or a related field
- Recognized, or demonstrated progress towards, professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CFA, etc.)
- 2+ years of progressive experience in financial reporting, with exposure to data analytics
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in financial software and advanced spreadsheet applications
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-motivated and pro-active, with respect to both managing workload and professional development
- Can work in a dynamic and complex environment – adapting quickly to manage changing priorities and deadlines
- Demonstrated knowledge of key finance issues (e.g., accounting, treasury, capital)
- Ability to work collaboratively in teams/groups and to build effective, trusting relationships across the CIB at all levels and with external clients/partners
- Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards and relevant financial regulations and compliance requirements is an asset
- Bilingual French and English (written and oral) is an asset
