Hello! We're Teya.
Teya is a payment and software service provider, headquartered in London serving small, local businesses across Europe. Founded in 2019, we build easy to use, integrated tools that enable our members to accept payments and boost business performance.
At Teya we believe small, local businesses are the lifeblood of our communities.
We’re here because we don’t believe there’s a level playing field that gives small businesses with a fighting chance against the giants of the high street.
We’re here because we see banks and legacy service providers making things harder for them. We don’t think the best technology or the best service should be reserved for those with the biggest headquarters.
We’re here to fight for a future where small, local businesses can thrive, and to commit the same dedication they offer all of us.
Become a part of our story.
We’re looking for exceptional talent to join our mission. We offer a chance to create impact in a high-energy and connected culture, while benefiting from continuous learning opportunities, a supportive community which is proud to serve our mission, and comprehensive benefits.
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior Web Engineer to join our Business Account team, with a specialised focus on building and scaling the web experience for our Business Account product, a banking platform that enables small businesses across Europe to manage their finances with Teya.
In this pivotal role, you'll design, develop, and maintain the merchant-facing web portal that empowers business account holders across multiple European markets to manage their accounts, make transfers, track transactions, and run their businesses from the web. Your work will directly shape how merchants interact with core banking features, from everyday payments to bill management and managing their spending.
You'll be joining a mobile-first product as it expands further to the web, meaning you'll have a foundational role in defining the web experience from the near the ground up. You'll translate complex financial workflows into intuitive, secure, and high-performance user interfaces, collaborating closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, backend engineers, and mobile engineers. Your expertise will be instrumental in achieving feature parity on web, launching in new European markets, and building web-first capabilities in our roadmap for this year.
Lead the design, development, and implementation of responsive and scalable web features for the Business Account portal using React, Next.js, TypeScript, and GraphQL.
Collaborate deeply with product and design teams to understand the needs of our merchant users and translate complex financial workflows (transfers, scheduled payments, account management, SCA flows) into intuitive and secure user interfaces.
Build data-rich UIs that handle transaction feeds, account balances, statements, and multi-currency views, ensuring high performance and responsiveness, leveraging TypeScript for robust type checking and improved code quality.
Implement secure web flows, including Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) for sensitive banking operations such as transfers, account access, and payment approvals.
Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code, ensuring the reliability and security of mission-critical banking features with a focus on type-safe development practices.
Actively participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and helping establish web engineering best practices within a team that has historically been mobile-focused.
Identify and address performance bottlenecks and bugs, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted experience for our merchants.
Contribute to achieving web feature parity with the mobile app and drive web-first features such as payments, bulk operations, and administrative tooling.
Support the expansion of the Business Account to new European markets by ensuring web experiences are localised and compliant with market-specific requirements.
Stay up-to-date with the latest frontend technologies, trends, and best practices, applying them to enhance our merchant-facing web platform.
5+ years of professional experience in frontend/web development.
Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript, including advanced type manipulation, generics, and understanding of complex type inference.
Strong proficiency in React.js and its core principles, developed with a type-safe approach.
Extensive experience with Next.js for server-side rendering, static site generation, and API routes, with a focus on TypeScript integration.
Solid understanding of modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.
Experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, Context API, Zustand) in a TypeScript environment.
Strong experience consuming GraphQL APIs (e.g., Apollo Client), with an understanding of how to define and use types for API responses.
Strong understanding of web performance optimisation techniques.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration abilities, especially when working within cross-functional teams spanning product, design, backend, and mobile engineering.
Proficiency with UI component libraries such as Chakra UI or Material UI, with experience leveraging their TypeScript definitions.
Experience with RESTful API integration alongside GraphQL.
Familiarity with internationalisation (i18n) frameworks for multi-language, multi-market web applications.
Experience in fintech or banking web applications, including secure and compliant interfaces with SCA/2FA, PSD2, and RBAC
Proven ability to build and translate mobile-first products into responsive web experiences
Practical use of AI coding tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate development while maintaining code quality
Experience launching and localising web products across multiple European markets, including currency, regulatory, and language requirements
