Senior Network Engineer - Energy Sector - Brussels - Freelance / CDI

The Datacom team is responsible for delivering and maintaining a fault‑tolerant, secure, and highly reliable communication network. This includes the management of fixed and satellite telephony, internet and Wi‑Fi connectivity, network security, and a range of telecommunications platforms supporting operational monitoring, data collection, and communication with external partners.

To support the Data Transport Network Operations Center (NOC), we are seeking a Senior Data Transmission Network Operator. In this role, your objective is to ensure the proper functioning of the data communication network, respond promptly to incidents, and coordinate planned and unplanned maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and ensure the operational health of all Datacom platforms.
• Analyse, troubleshoot, and escalate issues within the Datacom network, collaborating with network architects, product owners, and external partners when needed.
• Communicate with stakeholders regarding incidents, technical issues, or planned activities to confirm planning, gather information, or validate resolution.
• Respond to operational, planning, and project‑related requests from internal teams or third parties.
• Perform administrative and documentation tasks to maintain quality standards across Datacom platforms.
• Actively contribute to internal and external process improvements and support knowledge sharing within the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electronics, ICT, telecommunications, or equivalent technical experience.
• Solid practical understanding of modern LAN and WAN technologies (e.g. SDH, DWDM, IP/MPLS, VoIP) and related management systems.
• Experience as a Helpdesk Officer or Network Operations Engineer is an advantage.
• Fluency in Dutch or French, with good proficiency in the other language. Strong English skills are essential.
• Motivated to continuously learn and expand technical expertise in Datacom environments.
• Ability to work independently, set priorities, and demonstrate strong responsibility and urgency.
• Strong analytical and communication skills to assess risks and impacts effectively.
• Flexible, stress‑resistant, and able to adapt to sudden operational interruptions.
