Senior Software Engineer, Data Products

This is a fully remote position.
We're looking for a driven Senior Software Engineer to join our team and help eliminate the financial complexity of healthcare. This role will support building our core pricing systems. We value autonomous contributors who can handle complex technical challenges while collaborating effectively across teams.
We have a small, growing, and highly-capable development team. As a Senior Engineer, you should be comfortable working independently on complex assignments with minimal guidance. As you would be working for a fast-growing start-up, your role would be wide-ranging. In this role, we're looking for someone who can successfully execute on non-routine technical problems and deliver consistent high-quality work.
Responsibilities:
Design and build robust, scalable applications using Python, Django, and modern frontend web technologies
Work autonomously on complex assignments requiring specialist contribution and cross-team collaboration
Execute and adapt established processes to achieve technical objectives with minimal guidance
Write effective, scalable, testable code across full-stack applications (Python/Django, PostgreSQL, JavaScript/Vue)
Work with large datasets and AI/ML systems to process and enhance healthcare pricing data
Facilitate technical conversations and proactively communicate status and impact to avoid blockers
Support and guide teammates in understanding technical concepts and established processes
Iterate quickly with an eye towards value
Here's what you bring to the role:
5-7+ years work experience in Python, or strong experience in another programming language with some Python exposure
Expertise in at least one popular Python web framework (preferably Django) or similar web framework in another language
Strong understanding of SQL and how to efficiently use databases to solve complex problems
Solid experience with JavaScript, and one or more modern JS frameworks like Vue or React
Experience working with APIs, data pipelines, and complex system architectures
Ability to work effectively with minimal guidance on complex, non-routine problems
Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts clearly
Proven ability to facilitate conversations, listen actively, and work effectively in remote environments
Entrepreneurial mindset: you can problem solve independently while collaborating effectively across teams
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience/knowledge. We are happy to work with strong candidates with non-traditional educational backgrounds
Nice to haves:
Healthcare domain experience or understanding of healthcare data and pricing models
AI/ML experience, particularly with emerging patterns like RAG and Agentic Workflows
Experience with data analysis tools like Pandas, NumPy, or similar for large dataset analysis
DevOps experience with deployment pipelines, infrastructure as code, or monitoring systems
Experience working on open-source projects
Salary:
The starting salary range for this full-time position is $175,000-$195,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level, and reflect the minimum and maximum salary across all US locations (they are location agnostic). Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. We will talk about compensation in our first conversation and be transparent throughout the process about which level we think is the best match for you in our organization. Please note that the salary range does not reflect total compensation, which includes base salary, benefits, and company stock options.

Turquoise Health is a fully remote company based in the US. We work with team members and contractors in the US and around the world, but we operate on US business hours and work with clients entirely based in the US. For this role, we are seeking US-based candidates.
