We insist that every student receives a world-class education while fostering a love for learning. We are passionate about changing the landscape of public education in New York City and beyond, and we are uncompromising in our mission.
Currently, we operate multiple elementary and middle schools in the Bronx, Upper Manhattan, and Queens. We plan to grow and open 1-2 schools each year because children in every community deserve excellent, equitable education. Join our growing team today, and be a change agent for children.
Our Network office is located at 401 W. 218th St., New York, NY 10034. Our Network team follows a hybrid work schedule: we work in-person from our office on Tuesdays and Thursdays with optional remote days on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, if your team's scope of work permits.
Deliver powerful results
To achieve our vision, we are searching for a Senior Writer & Content Strategist with a Bachelor’s degree (preferably in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, or a related field), and at least 7–10 years of professional writing experience with a demonstrated record of consistently producing high-quality written content in fast-paced, mission-driven environments. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Managing Director of Engagement & Impact and will focus primarily on written content production (approximately 70%) with strategic messaging support (approximately 30%).
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Exceptional writing and editing skills across both long-form and short-form formats, with a portfolio that reflects clarity, structure, and audience awareness
- A proven track record of shipping high-quality written work on tight timelines
- Experience ghostwriting for senior leaders or executives
- Strong organizational habits and the ability to independently manage deadlines and competing priorities
- Comfort balancing strategic thinking with disciplined execution
- A growth mindset and willingness to continuously refine craft in response to feedback
- Experience in K–12 education or charter schools is a plus, but not required
Responsibilities:
- Lead the drafting and refinement of high-volume family-facing communications, including emails, recurring parent communications, website content, enrollment materials, and informational resources
- Translate complex operational or academic updates into clear, accessible, and love-driven messaging that builds family trust and strengthens belonging
- Draft internal communications for Network and School teams, ensuring clarity, alignment, and disciplined adherence to stakeholder communication sequencing
- Ghostwrite thought leadership pieces, speeches, and public-facing content in the voice of the CEO and other senior leaders, demonstrating strong voice-matching ability and editorial precision
- Review and refine press releases drafted by external PR partners to ensure clarity, tone alignment, and narrative coherence
- Manage multiple concurrent writing projects with clear ownership, reliable follow-through, and attention to detail
- Operate effectively within structured project management systems (e.g., Asana), meeting deadlines without sacrificing quality
- Incorporate feedback quickly and thoughtfully, elevating work through iteration rather than extended conceptual debate
- Contribute to editorial calendars and messaging plans in partnership with Marketing and Outreach teams
- Wear multiple hats as a part of a lean scale-up team, supporting the work of others on the team and taking on new projects and tasks as needed
