The Impact of a Software Engineer (Frontend/React) at Coupa:
As a Frontend Engineer within the Direct Procurement unit, you are the developer of the user experience. You will build the intuitive interfaces that supply chain managers and procurement leads use to manage billions of dollars in spend. Your mission is to bridge the gap between complex backend data and a seamless, high-performance user interface, ensuring that our SaaS platform remains accessible, secure, and lightning-fast globally.
What You’ll Do
Feature Development: Build and maintain scalable, high-performance web applications using React.js.UI/UX Collaboration: Partner with Designers and Product Managers to translate wireframes into high-quality code, ensuring technical feasibility and visual consistency.Performance Optimization: Audit and optimize frontend performance to ensure a smooth user experience even when handling massive datasets (e.g., complex Bills of Materials).Maintainability: Write clean, modular, and well-documented code, leveraging modern design patterns and MUI (Material UI) components.Quality Assurance: Implement robust frontend testing strategies to ensure reliability across various browsers and devices.
What You Will Bring to Coupa
React Mastery: 3+ years of professional experience with React.js, including deep knowledge of Hooks, Context API, and state management (Redux, Recoil, or React Query).Modern CSS: Expert proficiency in CSS3, HTML5, and responsive design principles.Design Systems: Hands-on experience with MUI (Material UI) or similar component libraries to build consistent, scalable interfaces.Architecture: Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and functional programming paradigms in JavaScript/TypeScript.Web Performance: Experience with code-splitting, lazy loading, and optimizing Core Web Vitals.Security: Solid understanding of frontend security best practices (e.g., XSS prevention, CSRF, and secure handling of JWT/OAuth).Accessibility (a11y): Commitment to building inclusive software by following WCAG 2.1 standards to ensure the platform is accessible to all users.Testing: Experience with modern testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, or Cypress.Micro frontends: Experience or a strong conceptual understanding of Micro frontend architecture is a significant plus.Direct Procurement Knowledge: Understanding the workflows of sourcing, inventory, or ERP integrations.Cloud Awareness: Familiarity with deploying frontend assets to hyper-scalers (AWS, Azure) and understanding CDN distributions.Full-stack Curiosity: A basic understanding of Java/Spring Boot to better collaborate with our backend engineering peers.
