• The qualified candidate will be responsible for culturing patient-derived primary cells and cell lines as well as learning plate-based assays to measure the effects of compounds on CFTR function.
• This position requires working with liquid handling equipment, characterizing culture systems and models, and modifying established assays to meet project goals.
• She/he will be responsible for maintaining high capacity cell culture, delivering high quality data to the team, presenting results at meetings, and adapting the assay to the needs of the program.
• The successful candidate will make use of problem solving, critical thinking, and effective written and oral presentation skills in a highly-matrixed team environment.
• Candidates must have meticulous work habits and excellent record keeping and organizational skills.
• This candidate is required to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues, requiring proactive communication and a teamwork mentality.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Mammalian cell culture: passage and feed cells in flask culture as well as microtiter plates; both primary cells and cell lines
• Compound handling: prepare stock solutions from powders, prepare dilutions, treat cells with compound solutions, media formulations
• Design workflow, procedures and experiments in consultation with supervisor.
• Report results at CF biology team, project team
• Train and collaborate with junior colleagues and student interns.
• Weekend work will be required occasionally.
Required:
• Extensive mammalian cell culture experience, excellent sterile technique
• Experience optimizing cell-based assays, involving HTS formats, automated liquid handlers
• Ability to operate computer hardware and software that would normally be encountered in a laboratory setting
Preferred:
• Experience with culture of primary cells, preferentially human airway cells
• Work on Cystic Fibrosis in a drug discovery setting
• Experience with large-scale cell culture
