Position Overview:
The Near North Montessori (NNM) School Summer Camp Counselor (part-time, seasonal position) works alongside the summer camp staff, Programs Director, and Programs Coordinator to supervise and ensure the safety of campers while providing a caring, warm, and fun environment. Hours of this position are Monday- Friday, 8:15am to 3:45pm (June 15, 2026 to August 7, 2026).
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Assist in the implementation of daily activities and program plans under the direction of the camp supervisor, Programs Director, and Programs Coordinator
Maintain a close working relationship with the camp supervisor, Programs Director, and Programs Coordinator: attend all scheduled planning meetings, regularly discuss the needs of the campers, evaluate mutual expectations, and review work being done
Assist in the daily operations of the Summer Camp
Help ensure safe drop-off and pick-up of campers
Assist in cleaning and maintenance of camp environment
Assist with implementation, preparation and clean-up of daily activities
Assist in the preparation of healthy snacks for campers, being aware of and accommodating any camper food allergies and other health concerns
Assist in preparation and restoration of camp environment
Represent "the face of camp" for campers and families
Be visible throughout daily camp activities, interacting with campers and families while promoting the Summer Program's mission
Be committed to quality interaction with campers, adhering to school policies and protocol
Work closely with Summer Camp Staff
Communicate with camp supervisors, instructors and other staff regarding camper needs
Work with camp supervisors, instructors and other staff to implement daily activities
Be flexible, open and responsive to changes in assignments, based upon the changing needs of the Summer Program
Notify camp supervisors, instructors and other staff immediately if any questionable or potentially harmful circumstances that threaten the safety of any campers
Notify camp supervisors, instructors and other staff of any absences
Perform all duties as assigned by camp supervisors, instructors and other staff
Assist in various programs to provide support to staff or children as needed and requested

Education
High School Degree required
Years of Experience
1-3+ years experience working in Summer Camp or similar environment
1-3+ years experience working with children
Certification
CPR/First Aid Certification ideal
Required Participation
Participate in Summer Camp training session
Specific Skills Required
Ability to work in both independent and group settings
Ability to communicate with children and adults
Ability to sit, walk, stand and engage with others for 6+ hours
