Are you looking for a hands-on role where you can make a real difference to the way waste is managed in London? At Cory, we’re proud to operate four Transfer Stations along the River Thames, playing a vital part in moving waste efficiently and sustainably to our Energy from Waste facility in Belvedere – one of Europe’s largest, processing 850,000 tonnes of waste every year.
This position is based at our Barking Transfer Station, a site that runs 24/7 and is currently undergoing exciting redevelopment to introduce new processing capabilities. As a Transfer Station Operative, you’ll be at the heart of these operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely.
You’ll work as part of a close-knit team, handling household and commercial waste, operating machinery, and keeping the site clean and compliant. Your role will help us maintain high standards and prevent complaints from local residents, making you an essential part of our community-focused approach.
At Cory, we value inclusivity and encourage applications from all backgrounds. If you’re ready to join a company committed to sustainability and innovation, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for someone with a flexible, proactive attitude and a willingness to learn. Previous experience at a Transfer Station or Recycling Centre is helpful but not essential – we’ll support you in gaining new skills, including operating cranes and plant machinery.
You’ll need good communication skills and the ability to work well both in a team and independently. A flexible approach is key, as the role involves scheduled weekend shifts and fixed day or night shifts (you can choose your preference when applying).
Health and safety compliance is central to everything we do, so you’ll need to be comfortable following procedures and maintaining a tidy, safe working environment. Above all, we want someone who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of delivering a reliable service to the community.
If you don’t tick every box, don’t worry – we welcome applications from anyone who feels they can make a positive impact in this role.
This is a shift-based position, working a fixed shift. You’ll be asked whether you’re interested in day or night shifts (or either) on the application form.
