In 2018, we began with a WhatsApp group with a simple hypothesis: people in tier-2/3 towns weren’t really using the internet meaningfully yet. We believed that if we started with local content in their own language, they’d come back every day; once there was a habit and trust, that same space could naturally grow into classifieds and, eventually, something they used for almost everything online.This spark became Lokal. Our first instinct was to put everything in one place & one app - local updates, classifieds, jobs, matrimony and more. It worked, till it stopped working. Users gave us the insight - when one use case outweighs the others, everything else seems like noise. We listened. Like how Craigslist quietly seeded a generation of focused companies & marketplaces, we began unbundling and verticalising.
Today, Lokal is a house of focused apps, many products, one mission to connect Tier-2/3+ India to the Knowledge, opportunities, tools and experts they’ve always deserved.

About the Role
We are looking for a highly creative and skilled Video Editor to join our content team. You will be responsible for crafting compelling short-form and mid-length video content across platforms — from social media reels to promotional videos and branded content. This role requires a deep understanding of storytelling, editing trends, platform dynamics, and cultural nuances to create content that drives engagement and delivers impact.
- Edit short-form and mid-length videos such as reels, social media ads, promos, and content explainers.
- Implement engaging hooks, dynamic pacing, and a strong narrative rhythm to maximize viewer retention.
- Tailor editing styles to suit platform-specific behaviors (e.g., fast cuts for Instagram, scroll-stopping openers for YouTube Shorts).
- Enhance video quality through thoughtful color grading, text animations, transitions, and immersive sound design.
- Collaborate closely with writers, designers, and creative leads to bring scripts and visual concepts to life.
- Stay updated on current editing trends, meme formats, cultural references, and audio trends to keep content fresh and relatable.
- Analyze ad performance metrics and apply learnings to improve edits for better click-through and completion rates.
- Edit videos in the required language(English and Tamil), ensuring linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and strong storytelling for the target audience.
Requirements
- Proficiency in editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, or similar.
- Strong portfolio of short-form content (reels, ads, promos).
- Good understanding of social platform algorithms and engagement tactics.
- Strong storytelling instincts, visual creativity, and sound design skills.
- Language proficiency: Ability to edit in Language — English and Tamil ,with cultural sensitivity and linguistic command.
- Proficiency in English & Tamil (written and spoken) for internal coordination and review.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with tight deadlines.
