We are looking for an experienced Accounting Team Manager to take ownership of a significant compliance portfolio and lead a high-performing team of accounting professionals. This is a senior hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys balancing technical excellence, people leadership, and continuous improvement.
You will sit at the intersection of delivery, leadership, and innovation, with real influence over how compliance services are delivered across the firm
The Opportunity:
In this role, you will lead an established accounting team of around 20 responsible for delivering high-quality compliance outcomes for a diverse portfolio of private enterprise clients. You will be accountable for workflow planning, quality, and team performance, while also contributing to national initiatives that improve how KPMG delivers accounting and tax compliance services.
This role suits a technically strong accounting leader who enjoys developing people, improving systems and processes, and building trusted relationships with clients and senior stakeholders.
What you will do:
Plan and coordinate team workflows to ensure deadlines, quality standards, and commercial outcomes are consistently met.Take end-to-end responsibility for delivery of compliance engagements, including financial statements, IFRS reporting, and income tax returns to the client services team.Review financial statements and tax positions in line with accounting standards, tax legislation, and KPMG methodologies.Coach, mentor, and support your team through effective work allocation, onboarding, and performance conversations.Create an environment where people feel supported, challenged, and able to do their best work.Build capability and resilience within the team through structured development and clear expectations.Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve the way compliance services are delivered.Contribute to the adoption of new tools, technology, and ways of working across the national practice.Share knowledge and collaborate with leaders across locations to lift consistency and quality.Develop trusted relationships with Partners, client managers, and clients.Act as a confident representative of KPMG in client and external interactions.Work collaboratively to anticipate challenges and deliver practical, high-quality solutions.
About you:
Membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (or an equivalent recognised professional body).Proven experience leading teams and managing complex accounting and tax compliance engagements.Strong working knowledge of accounting standards, tax legislation, and compliance processes.The ability to build credibility and influence with the client services team and other stakeholders.A mindset focused on continuous improvement, innovation, and doing work that matters.Integrity, sound judgement, and the confidence to lead through change.
