About the Team
Patreon’s Compliance team plays a critical role in protecting our platform, creators, and community. We focus on anti-money laundering, sanctions compliance, and financial crime risk management across our global operations.
Operating across New York and Porto, our team partners closely with Legal, Trust & Safety, Payments, Risk, and Product to design and maintain a robust compliance program that scales with Patreon’s growth. We build thoughtful, risk-based controls that enable innovation while ensuring we meet industry standards in the markets we serve.
We’re a collaborative, detail-oriented group that thrives at the intersection of compliance risk management, technology and global payments. If you’re excited about building compliance programs in a fast-moving environment, and working across international teams, you’ll feel right at home here.
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Compliance Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day execution of our sanctions and AML programs. This role is responsible for ensuring that monitoring, investigations, and reporting activities are performed effectively and consistently.
You will manage the daily workload of the AML and OFAC operations function across multiple time zones (New York and Porto), ensuring timely completion of assignments, appropriate case prioritization, and strong operational discipline. This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance tactical execution with strategic program improvement.
In this role, you will:
Oversee daily AML and OFAC operations, including workload management, case assignment, and deadline coordination
Lead and manage a distributed team across time zones, ensuring alignment, consistency, and accountability
Monitor and manage team performance metrics, SLAs, and quality standards
Assist in drafting, maintaining, and enhancing AML and OFAC policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance
Support strategic and tactical initiatives to strengthen the AML and sanctions compliance program
Partner with the Director of Compliance to tune and calibrate transaction monitoring rules, optimizing detection effectiveness while minimizing false positives
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency and scalability
Develop and manage reporting databases and dashboards to track trends, risk indicators, and potential money laundering or terrorist financing activity
Produce trend analysis and demographic reporting to inform risk assessments and senior leadership decision-making
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-accountability environment, enjoys building scalable systems, and brings a continuous improvement mindset to compliance operations.
About You
You are a thoughtful and analytical compliance professional who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments. You bring strong operational judgment, a proactive mindset, and the ability to turn complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable processes.
You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity, managing competing priorities, and driving outcomes across distributed teams. You communicate clearly, think critically, and influence others through clarity, credibility, and collaboration.
You have:
4+ years of professional experience, including at least 1+ year in AML, sanctions, or compliance operations
Hands-on experience conducting AML investigations and/or operational case management
Working knowledge of SAR filings with FinCEN and OFAC reporting requirements
Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize facts, identify risk patterns, and clearly communicate findings and recommendations
Demonstrated project leadership experience and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
A track record of positively influencing teams and driving results in periods of change or growth
The ability to build strong cross-functional relationships across Compliance, Legal, Risk, Product, and Operations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
A self-starter mentality with comfort operating independently in ambiguous or evolving environments
Nice to have:
Experience working with case management or support tools such as Zendesk
Exposure to transaction monitoring systems and rule tuning
Experience working across global or multi-time-zone teams
