117: We are seeking a Direct Support Professional to support an individual enjoys getting out and about and staying active in the community. Some of his favorite activities include visiting thrift stores, going swimming, bowling, catching a movie, spending time at the mall, and attending weekly outings to Bullwinkle’s on Wednesdays with Empowered Services.
He can be fun, engaging, and enjoys interacting with others, especially when participating in activities he enjoys. At times, he may become overwhelmed or frustrated, so it is important that the provider remain calm, patient, and supportive. He responds best to short, clear, one-line directions and benefits from knowing about transitions ahead of time so he understands what to expect next.
The ideal provider will be someone who enjoys being active in the community, can provide steady guidance, and is comfortable supporting someone who may experience occasional overstimulation. When he becomes overwhelmed, he may raise his voice or engage in self-hitting behaviors, so a provider who can remain calm and supportive during these moments is essential.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys community outings and building a positive, supportive working relationship while helping someone participate in activities they love.
