This position is hybrid in the Greater Kansas City area with occasional travel for team-offsites.
Position Description
We are seeking a full-time GIS Manager to join our collaborative data team in support of our utility database footprint expansion. Responsibilities include leading a team that conducts spatial utility data research, assists with engineering digitization planning, and manages other ad hoc GIS related tasks. The manager will help set goals for GIS Analysts and plan the organization of the team with relation to project priorities. The manager will have a deep technical knowledge base and extensive management experience.
Primary Functions:
Provides technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to team of GIS Analysts
Identifies and executes on process improvement opportunities in coordination with key stakeholders
Creates a positive work culture that aids in team member engagement, motivation, and retention
QA/QC of team’s work products
Works with leadership to establish priorities and goals for the team
Works with leadership to develop standard operating procedure and training/onboarding documentation
Works with leadership to establish career development and evaluation plan
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in GIS adjacent field (GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, etc.)
5+ years of GIS experience, including 2+ years in a supervisor or managerial role
Proficiency in SQL and Python
Experience with project management
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong leadership skills with the ability to operate and manage in a hybrid setting
Willing to work in Downtown KC 1-2 days per week
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with utilities and/or government agencies
Experience with ArcGIS Server
Experience with open source GIS technology
Experience working in a start-up environment
Master’s Degree preferred
