SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Manager, Plant Operations, the Senior Process Engineer is the primary Operations contributor and Subject Matter Expert on water and wastewater treatment capital projects. On behalf of the Plant Operations Section, the Senior Process Engineer assumes accountability and responsibility for operational and process insights and contributions into complex water and wastewater treatment design and construction projects.
Provides engineering expertise with an emphasis in water and wastewater treatment in the planning, design and construction of the City’s treatment processes and facilities.
Provides leadership in a multi-functional workforce engaged in the delivery and direction of services to the public. Recommends improvement strategies to meet mandated goals and objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for managing projects in a variety of staff resource configurations ranging from individual work to leadership of cross-departmental work teams, exercising leadership, guidance, technical competence, innovative problem-solving and the achievement of results in all such settings.
Provides engineering support in the areas of process/energy optimization and efficiency, research, capital program delivery, operations and project work for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
GENERAL DUTIES (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
Provides creative leadership and direction to subordinate staff. Promotes teamwork and integration between internal and external parties participating in cross-functional and cross program initiatives.
Provides supervision and direction to subordinate staff, including recommending and implementing standard procedures and the provision of training programs to upgrade and maintain skills.
Using a "best practices" approach develops and delivers quality customer focused services in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Conducts water and wastewater studies, initiates projects, develops programs and investigates problems.
Provides input in the preparation of the Capital Budget and develop scheduling of projects.
Researches and reviews current practices and guidelines for management of the City’s treatment facilities and outstations.
Liaises with the general public, elected officials, area municipalities, consultants, developers and other levels of government on issues relating to the direct responsibilities of this position.
Represents the City at various meetings with the contractor/operator, consultants, Ministry of the Environment and the general public.
Manages projects and contracts as assigned.
Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
Prepare and deliver presentations to senior management and/or Council.
Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the normal functions of the job.
