This is a Registered Apprenticeship program in partnership with Salina Area Technical College. Candidates must be enrolled at Salina Area Technical College.
The Geoprobe® CNC Machinist works with a team to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine while placing a high priority on maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies. Successful candidates will be team players, mechanical with strong hands-on skills, committed to high-quality work, comfortable working with blueprints, strong in math, and team oriented.
As an apprentice, you will learn to:
- Plan and execute machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, machining parameters and tolerances
- Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Set-up mills and lathes.
- Load material feeders by lifting stock into position
- Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards
- Maintain safe operations. adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Maintain equipment, completing preventive maintenance requirements
- Document actions, completing production and quality logs
Requirements
- Enrolled and in good standing the Machine Tool Technology Program at Salina Area Technical College
- Must provide one reference that is an instructor at your high school or Salina Area Technical College
- Good at math with analytical abilities
- Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items and stand for long periods of time
- Hands-on with strong mechanical abilities
- Possess manual dexterity and an eye for detail
- Strong communication skills - relates well to all kinds of people
- Able to lift 50+ lbs
