About the role:
In this Engineering Manager role at Camunda, you will lead the team that builds our common canvas experience for modeling BPMN and process orchestration. This modelling canvas is where customers design and implement how work flows through their business, so your team’s work is both highly visible and deeply impactful. You’ll combine thoughtful people leadership with solid engineering judgment to help a diverse, remote team ship a high‑quality modeling experience, collaborate closely with Product and Design, and continuously improve how teams build and operate process orchestration at scale.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Lead and grow a high‑performing team responsible for the modelling canvas used to design and orchestrate processes (BPMN and related notations), ensuring the experience is intuitive, reliable, and evolves with customer needs.
Own delivery and quality for your area: align work to a clear roadmap, balance new feature development with UX and technical excellence, and make sure we ship incrementally, safely, and predictably.
Partner closely with Product Management and Design to shape the next-generation canvas vision, clarify requirements, make pragmatic trade‑offs, and ensure we’re solving real customer problems, not just building features.
Support operations and incident response for your services: work with your team to define on‑call / escalation practices, respond to issues, and communicate clearly with stakeholders when something breaks or needs to change.
Develop and enable your team members, providing regular feedback, coaching, and growth opportunities so they can expand their skills, take on more complex work, and do their best work at Camunda.
Contribute to hiring and engineering culture by partnering with Talent Acquisition, designing fair, skills‑based interviews, and sharing best practices with other managers in Engineering.
What You Bring:
Ability and/or willingness to use our product
Experience leading software engineers as a people manager, including responsibility for performance, mentoring, and day‑to‑day team health.
Proven track record delivering user‑facing product features end‑to‑end in collaboration with Product and Design, ideally in a SaaS or cloud‑based environment.
Solid understanding of modern engineering practices (e.g., code review, automated testing, continuous delivery, observability) and how to apply them pragmatically within a team.
Comfort with incident and escalation management: you know how to help teams prioritize, respond under pressure, and communicate clearly and transparently with internal stakeholders.
Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote‑first setting, including the ability to give and receive candid feedback, align people around goals, and keep stakeholders informed without unnecessary meetings.
Nice-to-haves:
Experience with developer tools, modeling tools, design systems, or visual editors (e.g., diagramming, canvas‑based UIs, BPMN/DMN tools).
Familiarity with process orchestration / BPMN or workflow engines (Camunda or similar).
Background working on highly interactive front‑end applications (e.g., TypeScript/React or similar modern web stacks) in partnership with UX.
Experience leading the development of user-facing authoring tools, with direct responsibility for integrating AI-driven capabilities (e.g. intelligent assistance, content generation, validation, or automation).
Experience working in or with distributed, multi‑team product organizations, where shared components (like a common canvas) are used across multiple products.
Experience with encouraging the adoption of AI usage within their organization.
