Abe Brown Ministries is a non-profit, Faith-based organization. InspHire Program is responsible for providing job placement and other support services for offenders being released to Hillsborough, Polk, and Pasco counties or an ex-offender referred to Abe Brown Ministries.
Job Purpose:
The Career Development Instructor is responsible for instructing training classes and assessing Clients’ progress toward meeting the requirements to complete the curriculum.
The Career Development Instructor need to ensure that when clients successfully complete the 4 core tasks and demonstrated proficiency in the 29 topics taught. The Career Development Instructor approves the Client to transition to the next phase of the InspHire cycle: Employment Services, adding them to the Completer’s List.
The Career Development Instructor also plays a crucial role in monitoring the progress of each Client and tracking their attendance and performance in ETO.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, revise and conduct an adult learning program based on assessment data, varied teaching strategies, learning styles and the availability of resources.
Select appropriate teaching techniques; which may include individual guidance, peer tutoring, cooperative learning, media instruction, computerized instruction, and small group instruction.
Design, develop and implement curricula to meet the diverse learning needs of the Clients. This may require writing original curricula rather than modifying existing curricula to meet the learning needs and demographic characteristics of the Client population.
Refer Clients to educational agencies that will allow the Client to obtain their GED or increase reading/mathematical scores.
Identify and describe the social and academic needs of the clients to assist them with academic and professional growth.
Administer formal and informal counseling of Clients as needed to facilitate learning, personal development, and conflict resolution.
Research and partner with agencies that offer certified vocational trainings to increase education and skills level of clients.
Leads the classes, presenting each of the 29 key topics and ensuring the material is presented in in a manner understood by the Clients and that the Clients are proficient in the concepts presented.
Continuously observe Clients and discuss any unusual behaviors or situations with Client’s respective Case Manager
Develop professional relationships with Clients to better identify their strengths, weaknesses and motivators
Meet with Clients to assess their progress outside of assigned classroom hours
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
At least two years human services experience.
Comfort in using computers and learning new software.
Experience working with the underserved and persons in crisis.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to establish rapport.
Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally-diverse families and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality involving both clients and fellow employees.
Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
Maintain professional appearance and comply with company dress code.
Previous Social Solutions knowledge is a plus.
Working Conditions:
General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Work is generally performed within the office environment, with standard office equipment available.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English. Must have good vision and ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Must be able to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers.
May be required to do some light lifting of supplies and materials occasionally.
