Position Description
The purpose of this role is to provide support for the Chef and Front of House in all areas of kitchen operation and supporting front of house staff when needed in a social enterprise café which supports isolated, marginalised, and homeless people and provide great food, coffee, and customer service to people from all walks of life.

What you're responsible for
- Cleaning: Wash and clean utensils and dishes; clean food preparation area, floors and other kitchen tools or
areas.
- Kitchen Supplies: Controls incoming goods and stores it in appropriate conditions in accordance with food hygiene regulations, updates the daily kitchen record sheets, ensures all food is labelled correctly, rotates, and maintain
supplies.
- Kitchen Environment: Adhere to food hygiene regulations standards for waste and unauthorised use of food and equipment. Knowledge of work safety/health policy and guidelines. Knowledge of HACCP principles and
application.
- Food Preparation: Assist the Chef in the preparation and cooking of food, as
required.
- Customer Service: Assist the front-of-house staff in serving meals during busy times as directed by your manager.
- Understand the position of Māori as the tangata whenua. Commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and an openness to understanding the application of the articles of Te Tiriti in the context of The Lifewise
Trust.

processes.

What Skills & Experience you need
- Three years or more experience working in a professional café kitchen environment.
- NZQA level three or four.
- Previous Barista Coffee making experience is a plus.
- Customer orientated, welcoming and friendly, maintain professional conduct and respectful attitude and behaviours to customers, colleagues, and management.
- Able to follow instructions and work within general guidelines established by Head Chef and Front of
House.
- Is keen to learn and develop new skills and professional knowledge including learning new cooking methods, recipes, menus, and
costs.
- Reliable - attends work, work duties and meetings punctually.
- Able to work well under pressure & Able to problem solve.
- Ability to lift and move equipment safely and with ease.
- Always follow Food and Hygiene standards.
- Establishes a good working relationship with all staff and volunteers.
- Has a willingness to perform other duties as deemed necessary for the efficient running of the Café Sufficient mobility and strength in back, hands, and wrists to operate household equipment for substantial periods of
time.
- Have a food-handling certificate.
- Able to supervise the kitchen staff and volunteers when the chef is away as per the guidelines provided by the
chef.
- Assist Chef in conceptualizing weekly lunch menus and cabinet food menus.
- Previous baking experience is a plus.
- Able to do ordering, stocktaking, quality control & cost control.
- Flexible to do extra evening shifts if needed.
