The Project Coordinator supports the successful delivery of excavation activities on the Ontario Transit Group project by coordinating schedules, resources, and documentation while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and technical requirements. Working closely with construction teams, engineers, and subcontractors, the role prepares work plans, reviews drawings and specifications, manages procurement needs, and maintains accurate reporting on progress, productivity, and costs.
The salary range for this position is $80,000 CAD - $110,000 CAD, plus additional benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all excavation and site activities adhere to safety regulations, project-specific HSE plans, and company policies.
- Support the implementation of excavation-specific mitigation measures, such as shoring, trench protection, utilities risk controls, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Coordinate and monitor project schedules, resource allocation, equipment mobilization, and workflow sequencing for excavation works.
- Assist in developing short-term and long-term lookahead schedules in collaboration with the construction team, ensuring alignment with overall project milestones.
- Prepare upcoming work packages by coordinating construction methods, identifying procurement needs, and consolidating design requirements.
- Support the development of excavation methodologies, haul routes, staging plans, and workface planning documentation.
- Review construction drawings, geotechnical reports, and project specifications related to excavation, utilities, temporary works, and structural interfaces.
- Generate procurement lists, Requests for Information (RFIs), Change Orders, and documentation for permitting, traffic management plans, and land access requirements.
- Track and manage revisions to drawings and specifications, ensuring field teams always have up‑to‑date information.
- Coordinate and monitor material requisitions to ensure timely delivery of aggregates, shoring components, geosynthetics, concrete, and other excavation-related items.
- Assist in tracking equipment requirements such as excavators, loaders, dewatering systems, and support-of-excavation equipment to avoid operational delays.
- Implement quality control processes to verify that all excavation and installation activities comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, and regulatory standards.
- Conduct field checks, participate in inspections, and document deficiencies or non‑conformances as required.
- Prepare, coordinate, and compile as-built documentation, ensuring accurate representation of underground services, elevations, excavation extents, and installed works.
- Maintain organized and traceable quality records for audits and final handover.
- Provide management with data-driven updates, including progress tracking, productivity analysis, schedule performance, and cost impacts for excavation activities.
- Assist in preparing monthly cost reconciliations, quantity tracking, and earned-value data.
- Daily reporting of site conditions, excavation progress, trucking quantities, equipment usage, and workforce allocation on Ontario Line South.
- Track production metrics and identify any variances affecting schedule, cost, or resources.
- Maintain accurate files, correspondence, approvals, permits, and project documentation to ensure audit-ready project records.
- Support document control processes by uploading, logging, and distributing project documents through the appropriate systems.
- Liaise with subcontractors, internal departments, designers, utility companies, and external stakeholders to coordinate excavation activities.
- Facilitate communication between field teams, engineering, procurement, environmental, and traffic management teams to resolve issues efficiently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in construction coordination or a comparable role within the civil or infrastructure sector.
- Relevant safety certifications such as OSHA training or equivalent are considered an asset.
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and work from construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Solid competency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word; familiarity with additional construction software is an advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Able to adapt to changing project demands and work schedules to meet critical deadlines.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment, fostering positive working relationships across stakeholders.
