In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
Logistics Superintendent
The Logistics Superintendent will lead and coordinate all logistics and support operations for the Oko West Project, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of materials, equipment, and personnel between Georgetown and the mine site. This role combines strategic planning with operational execution, overseeing transport logistics, fleet performance, and the management of key infrastructure supporting approximately 50 personnel. The Superintendent will champion safety, environmental responsibility, and compliance while driving continuous improvement. A key focus is developing local capacity by mentoring a Guyanese General Foreman (GF) to transition into the Superintendent role within two to three years, ensuring long-term operational sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Logistics Management
- Develop and maintain an integrated logistics plan aligned with production, procurement, and construction schedules.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee the transport of materials, fuel, and equipment from Georgetown to the wharf and onward to site.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain, Operations, and Maintenance teams to optimize timing, fleet utilization, and resource allocation.
- Establish contingency plans for adverse weather or supply interruptions.
- Wharf and Camp Infrastructure Management
- Manage wharf operations and related infrastructure, including accommodation, catering, power, and utilities for up to 50 personnel.
- Oversee water and sewage treatment, waste management, catering, and camp maintenance, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs for facilities and utilities, and manage site security and access control in collaboration with the Security Department.
- Personnel & Cargo Transport
- Coordinate personnel rotations and cargo shipments between Georgetown, the wharf, and the mine site.
- Ensure safe and documented transport of people and materials via boats, barges, and trucks.
- Optimize cargo consolidation, scheduling, and backhauling to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Fleet & Equipment Management
- Supervise the operation and maintenance of the company’s transport assets (horse and trailer fleet, cranes, tug and barge, crew boats, and support vehicles).
- Work with the Maintenance Superintendent to manage preventive maintenance schedules, fuel tracking, and spare parts inventory.
- Ensure driver competency, licensing, and adherence to company safety procedures.
- Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Enforce company and regulatory standards, including full compliance with Guyanese law and the International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC).
- Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and emergency response drills.
- Maintain compliance with environmental discharge and waste management requirements.
- Leadership & Local Capacity Building
- Lead, coach, and develop logistics and camp personnel across all locations.
- Mentor a local Guyanese General Foreman to assume the Superintendent role within 2–3 years.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Cost Control & Performance Monitoring
- Develop and manage annual logistics and camp operating budgets.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including:

- Barge utilization rate
- Fuel efficiency
- Equipment availability
- Wharf uptime and camp reliability
- Identify and implement cost-saving and process improvement measures.
Qualifications/Skills and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Operations, or a related field.
- Additional training in Facilities, Camp Management, or Engineering is an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in logistics and transport operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong background in barge and river transport operations, ideally within the mining or oil & gas sectors.
- Proven ability to manage camp or wharf infrastructure, including utilities and accommodation.
- Experience in remote, tropical, or developing country environments preferred.
- Familiarity with the International Cyanide Code and hazardous materials transport regulations.
- Demonstrated success in developing and mentoring local teams.
Skills:
