About the role
We are seeking a Competitive Product Analyst with deep, hands-on experience in practice management software used by accounting and tax firms. This role is ideal for a highly detail-oriented professional who has operated inside platforms like Karbon and Canopy as a power user, administrator, or implementer, and can clearly articulate how these systems function in real-world firm environments.
This is not an accounting execution role. Instead, the focus is on in-depth product evaluation, competitive analysis, and documentation. The analyst will independently drive structured comparisons between platforms, producing clear, evidence-based insights that directly inform product strategy, roadmap decisions, and go-to-market positioning.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct detailed, structured competitive analyses comparing Qount with leading practice management platforms, primarily Karbon and Canopy.
Analyze competitor capabilities at a feature-by-feature level, including workflows, engagement letters, time and billing, reporting, analytics, communications, and related modules.
Perform hands-on testing within competitor platforms, covering configuration, settings, permissions, and end-to-end workflows.
Document findings through clear written explanations, screenshots, comparison matrices, and short walkthrough videos.
Identify feature gaps, strengths, weaknesses, and key differentiators across platforms.
Build and maintain a structured comparison framework with supporting evidence, notes, and open questions.
Clearly document unresolved questions and propose next steps or follow-up testing.
Produce concise summaries highlighting gaps, opportunities, and recommended product improvements.
Continuously expand and maintain competitive analysis as new platforms or modules are added to the comparison set.
Provide regular weekly updates on progress, insights, risks, and open items.
Required Experience and Skills
Hands-on experience using Karbon and/or Canopy, or similar practice management platforms, ideally as a heavy user, administrator, or implementer.
Background in firm operations, practice management, system administration, implementation, or workflow ownership within an accounting or tax firm.
Strong technical aptitude and comfort navigating system settings, configurations, permissions, and integrations.
Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to produce clear, structured, and actionable documentation.
Self-starter capable of independently defining an evaluation plan and executing against it with minimal oversight.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex workflows.
Nice to Have
Experience participating in a practice management platform implementation or migration.
Exposure to multiple practice management tools beyond Karbon and Canopy.
Experience creating internal documentation, training materials, or enablement content.
CPA or EA designation (plus, not required).
