As our (Senior) Legal Counsel, you will be a key member of re:cap’s expanding legal team, working directly alongside our General Counsel.
In this role, you will provide comprehensive legal support and help shape the framework for our international expansion.
This is a broad, hands-on position for a legal professional with a German qualification who is ready to take significant ownership. You will collaborate closely with the General Counsel, senior management, and cross-functional teams, including Product, Commercial, Tech, Finance and People.
Legal Competence Center: Act as an integral part of re:cap’s legal competence center, providing expert advice to senior management and various business units.
Strategic Expansion: Play a crucial role in strategic projects and the further international expansion of the business.
Governance & Compliance: Support the company with its governance framework and ongoing compliance matters.
Legal Infrastructure: Lead efforts to reshape and level-up contract and legal document management throughout the organization.
External Coordination: Manage and coordinate interactions with external legal counsels across multiple jurisdictions.
You are a fully qualified German lawyer with 3-6 years of professional legal experience ideally combining time at a reputable commercial law firm (1–3 years) with in-house experience at a start-up or tech company (2–3 years).
You are a commercial law all-rounder with strong experience in diverse contracts and cross-border matters, ideally within online business models (e.g. financial services or other regulated sectors). You have a solid understanding of private company capital structures and quickly adapt to new legal areas as the business evolves.
You are open-minded and hands-on, with an analytical yet pragmatic and solution-oriented counselling approach. You strive to understand the root causes of legal issues and confidently balance legal risk with commercial needs in your advice.
You have a strong interest in fintech and the development of new financial products.
You are keen to explore and leverage the opportunities of Legal Tech and state-of-the-art legal tools.
You are fluent in German and English, written and spoken.
You hold a valid EU work permit and reside within the EU (we currently do not offer visa or relocation support).
1st month
The goal of the first month is that you become a productive member of the legal team and re:cap in general.
You will get your IT set-up and then spend some time on getting to know re:cap’s organizational structure and remote work set-up.
You will e-meet representatives of all relevant teams and the senior management in order to develop a proper understanding of re:cap’s business model and the major workflows involved
In parallel, you will engage intensely with re:cap‘s underlying legal framework in order to understand all relevant areas and the main impetus of the legal department
You will be involved in the counselling of specific legal issues from the outset and will provide support wherever possible, while at the same time developing your practical understanding of the legal consultation processes at re:cap.
2nd – 4th month
In the next three months, you will use the experience and knowledge you will have gained and constantly be gaining in your work at re:cap to gradually take on more and larger legal issues on your own.
The goal is for you to become the first point of contact for various legal issues as quickly as possible, with the support of the General Counsel at all times, of course.
Which legal issues you will work on in each individual case is open. In this rather early development phase, however, we will aim for a broad mix from all areas of legal consulting in order to prepare you for the rather generalist counselling requirements at re:cap.
5th and 6th month an onwards
By the end of the sixth month, you should be recognised by all re:cap colleagues as a trusted go-to person for their legal questions.
You should regularly handle and take responsibility for the legal issues you take on independently, although there will of course still be mutual coordination and professional sparring within the legal team.
You should now also feel that you have a thorough understanding of all the key aspects of re:cap's legal affairs and are generally confident in all areas of consulting.
This will be the starting point for taking a more active look at your medium and long-term development as a legal consultant at re:cap. Depending on your strengths and preferences and what makes sense for the distribution of roles in the legal department, it may be advisable at some point to focus your activities more strongly, with the end result that you take on full responsibility for specific areas of internal legal consulting.
