We are delighted to invite applications for a full time Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology to enhance our comprehensive service at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. The post offers excellent opportunities for clinical development in Emergency Eye Care and general Ophthalmology, managing adult and paediatric patients, with additional exposure to Cataract services. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in all elements of departmental activity, including the provision of first on-call.
This is a 10 PA post comprising mostly face to face consultations, though there may also be the opportunity to participate in virtual clinics. Activity will be centred around our Eye Emergency Clinic, as well as Outpatients and may be expanded to support the broad provision of day case and general theatre activity, including intravitreal injection lists. Participation in the first on-call rota is provided for an additional supplement. The post will consist of 8.5 DCC sessions and 1.5 SPA sessions. Depending on individual circumstances, a less-than-full-time job plan may be considered.
The Ophthalmology department covers all subspecialty areas including Cornea, Cataract, Diabetes, Glaucoma, Medical Retina, Oculoplastics, Paediatrics, Strabismus and Vitreoretinal. It is proud of a strong reputation for teaching and training and has the additional support of a dedicated research team. The successful applicant will be supported by their consultant colleagues, with a dedicated Emergency Eye Care Lead, in developing their knowledge and skills in Emergency and general ophthalmology.
