Miaplaza’s leadership aims to continue this high-growth trajectory, with a goal of serving thousands of students in the next 5-10 years! 🚀
We’re seeking a passionate and resourceful Student Support Specialist to join our team. This is a fully remote, student and family-facing role that emphasizes building positive student relationships, coaching student growth, monitoring progress, and managing records and data. As a MOHS Student Support Specialist, you will be integral in shaping the community for our students, parents, teachers, and staff.
A Day in the Role:
Manage a structured caseload of students receiving short-term (up to 12-week) intensive academic intervention
Design and implement measurable intervention plans with clear goals and progress monitoring
Address academic stagnation, executive functioning breakdowns, checkpoint struggles, attendance concerns, and risk of policy violation
Facilitate regular 1:1 and small group intervention sessions
Partner with students and families to develop actionable improvement strategies
Coach executive functioning, academic skill-building, and self-management while maintaining professional accountability
Analyze grades, pacing, checkpoint completion, attendance, and prior intervention history to guide decisions
Maintain thorough, objective documentation of plans, meetings, progress, and outcomes
Provide regular data-informed updates to Academic Counselors and Advisors
Receive and respond to referrals from Advisors and Academic Counselors
Collaborate cross-functionally to align intervention efforts
Apply MOHS policies appropriately and provide documented progress summaries to Academic Counselors when students fail to improve
Follow Crisis Response procedures and escalate safety concerns as required
Contribute to intervention program development and policy improvement
Participate in ongoing professional development in online education, intervention strategy, and neurodiversity-affirming practices
Support team needs during high-volume periods and model MOHS core values in everything you do
Schedule
MOHS Student Support Specialists are expected to have 40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.
Availability during school hours, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm in a U.S. timezone (ET, CT, MT, or PT) is required. While employees are not required to be available strictly for the entire duration of this period on a daily basis, due to managing a weekly caseload of students, the majority of work hours (approximately 30–35 per week) occur within the required availability window for student meetings and team collaboration. Limited flexibility (approximately 5 hours per week) may be scheduled outside of this window for planning and documentation.
Requirements
At least two years of experience in structured academic intervention, MTSS frameworks, or Tier 3 student support at the secondary (grades 7–12) level
Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education, psychology, or a related field
Experience in special education and/or implementing structured executive functioning, social-emotional, or academic skill interventions beyond general classroom teaching or advising
Demonstrated experience using academic performance data to design and implement structured, multi-week intervention plans beyond general classroom differentiation.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff
Willingness to support administrative tasks, lead a club, or assist with coverage during busy periods
Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of a developing online school environment
Adept at learning new online tools and comfortable working in an online environment
The ideal candidate brings:
Experience supporting students with specific learning needs, particularly in an online setting
Experience in special education and/or with coaching students on executive functioning, social-emotional learning and academic skills
