About the Role
Arundel Lodge is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to provide counseling, therapeutic intervention, and recovery-focused support to individuals with mental health and substance use needs. The counselor will deliver individual and group counseling services, including leading both in-person and virtual intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient recovery groups.
This role requires a strong commitment to the Recovery Model, emphasizing hope, respect, empowerment, and person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Treatment PlanningConduct psychosocial assessments addressing mental health and substance use needs.Develop individualized treatment goals and intervention plans in accordance with clinical standards and agency policies.Interview clients, families, and referral sources to determine interest in and eligibility for services.Review clinical documents to inform treatment planning.
Counseling & Therapeutic Services
Provide individual, group, and family counseling using established clinical modalities such as psychotherapy, CBT, crisis intervention, and task-centered approaches.Lead intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient recovery groups, both onsite and virtually.Develop recovery-specific plans of care, coordinate with external providers, and provide follow-up and case management related to legal, health, or mental health needs.
Care Coordination & Discharge Planning
Develop appropriate discharge plans and connect clients to community-based supports.Ensure continuity of care by coordinating with families, significant others, and external partners.
Documentation & Compliance
Complete all documentation in accordance with Arundel Lodge policies, COMAR, state/federal regulations, and accreditation standards.Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all privacy and ethical guidelines.
Professional Collaboration & Development
Attend staff meetings, trainings, and committee activities; may hold leadership roles as needed.Participate in cross-coverage and on-call rotation.Support continuous improvement of program services and agency initiatives.Engage in supervision, continuing education, and professional development.Support training of interns and allied health professionals when appropriate.
Additional Duties
Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic (OMHC).Perform other related duties as assigned.
