About the Company
If you’re looking for a leadership role that blends clinical challenge with an unbeatable coastal lifestyle, Greencross Port Macquarie is the perfect next step. Our clinic sits in one of Australia’s most desirable regional towns - beaches, wildlife, hiking trails, a relaxed community feel - and a team culture that makes you want to come to work.
We’re a busy, well‑staffed hospital that sees the full spectrum of veterinary medicine. As part of the local afterhours syndicate, and with no emergency centre nearby, we manage everything from tick paralysis to trauma, medical emergencies, wildlife, and general practice cases. It’s a fantastic environment for a vet who wants to lead, and continue to grow their clinical skills.
What Makes Our Team Special
Our veterinary team is high performing, experienced, and well respected in the region. You’ll be leading a group that includes:
- Dr Asanda – recipient of National New Graduate of the Year, bringing talent, enthusiasm and clinical curiosity.
- Calli – our Regional Nurse of the Year, known for skill, teamwork and exceptional patient care.
- Dr Sarah – holds a membership in Behaviour and has a strong special interest in wildlife.
- PM Superstar Sarah - ties all of the operational and admin tasks together, giving you more time for the vet work
We can also access two local vets with surgical memberships for ongoing referral support for advanced surgical procedures and mentoring when required.
We are a well‑staffed, cohesive team with strong nursing capability, excellent communication, and a culture that combines efficiency with genuine care. Morning teas are legendary, teamwork is effortless, and clinical standards are high.
Your Leadership Role
As Veterinary Director, you’ll guide day‑to‑day operations, support your team’s development, maintain clinical excellence, and help shape the future of a rapidly growing regional practice. You will:
- Mentor and empower the veterinary and nursing team
- Drive evidence‑based medicine and high clinical standards
- Optimise workflow, systems, and team culture
- Work collaboratively with Greencross operational and clinical leaders
- Take an active role in elevating GP and emergency capability in a regional setting
Whether you're a seasoned leader or stepping up for the first time, you’ll have strong support and access to Greencross leadership development programs and your committed Regional Clinical Director and Area Manager.
Work–Life Balance
We take balance seriously. Rostering is flexible, and leave is approved whenever possible, even at short notice, if it works with clinical needs. You’ll enjoy a lifestyle built around beaches, trails, coastal restaurants, and a naturally relaxed way of living.
Qualifications
- BVSc or DVM (or equivalent) and eligibility for registration in NSW
- At least 3+ years of experience, ideally with previous leadership exposure. Emerging leaders are encouraged to apply.
- Strong communication, teamwork and clinical capability
What We Offer
- Competitive salary plus leadership bonuses
- visa sponsorship for eligible overseas candidates
- Unlimited internal CE and dedicated leadership programs
- One week paid study leave (option to convert to annual leave)
- Paid AVA or Veterinary Board registration
- Access to VIN, Plumbs and full Greencross clinical resources
- Mental health and wellbeing support, including 24/7 counselling
- Generous staff discounts across Greencross clinics, Petbarn and partner retailers
If you’re looking for a leadership role where you can truly make an impact while living in a stunning coastal location, Port Macquarie offers the perfect combination of challenge, support, lifestyle and growth.
