NAC is currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager, to join our team at our St. Paul and St. Rose Pump Station projects in Windsor, Ontario.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Assistant Project Manager will have experience working on heavy industrial projects - ideally Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants. The ideal candidate will be eager to apply their experience and knowledge of construction practices to a long-term career in a rapidly growing construction company.
Job Description
Assist the Project Manager in creating and/or coordinating the project team to successfully execute project goals by understanding each team member’s strengths and weaknesses. Support the team to ensure it works effectively and efficiently.Assist in the development of the project specific safety site plan in consultation with the chosen HSE officer and Project Manager.Support the development and maintenance of the project specific schedule, assisting in determining which approach is best suited for the project (i.e., Long CPM or simple Bar Chart). Ensure the schedule is maintained for each project while supporting the definition of project goals, objectives, risks, assumptions, staffing levels, roles and responsibilities, work breakdown structure, milestones, and deliverables.Assist in preparing and maintaining the project awards list with defined goals and deliverables specific to each award. Support the establishment of timelines that are realistic and achievable.Assist with preparation and submission of Article “E” documentation as required for the project. Coordinate with project team members to track shop drawing submissions and monitor delivery dates according to project requirements.Maintain the CRX log and system for the project and assist in verifying the accuracy of change orders and ensuring they are properly documented and signed by the client.Maintain the RFI log and system for the project.Assist with maintaining the equipment control log.Assist in the preparation and compilation of operations and maintenance manuals.Assist with maintaining the corresponding schedules.Assist with preparing spare parts lists and salvaged equipment lists.Support owner communications, training plans, schedules and the collection of appropriate sign-off documentation.Assist in implementing and maintaining the quality control program to meet the requirements of the specific project.Support the cost control program for the project including:Assisting with review of estimatesIdentifying opportunities to improve project marginsAssisting with quarterly forecastsParticipating in bi-weekly meetings with Project and Trade Superintendents and ForemenSupporting monthly cost trackingAssisting with creation and tracking of team goals (Project Superintendent, Project Coordinator, Trades Superintendents, Foremen and Project Coordinators)Assist with project close out activities including substantial completion, total completion, and warranty call systems.Support the preparation and documentation of Lessons Learned for implementation on future projects.Assist in identifying potential issues within the scope of work and proposing alternatives or solutions to support project success and profitability.Support the Project Manager in monitoring project team members’ work programs including coordination with project coordinators, HSE officers and supervisors.Track delegated tasks and follow up with team members to ensure work is completed and documentation is properly maintained.Assist in maintaining and reviewing the CPM schedule to ensure accuracy throughout the project.Support the maintenance of strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and vendors.Promote positive working relationships with field staff and related unions while supporting high standards for productivity and quality.Assist in monitoring the efforts and billing of third-party workers such as consultants, contractors and other specialists.
Requirements
Construction related degree/diploma & approximately 3–7 years of construction experience or an equivalent combination of technical training & experienceExperience working on Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant projects is an assetPrevious experience supporting Project Management or Project Coordination on construction projectsExperience with facility commissioning/automation and closeout is an assetWorking knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, planning, cost control & engineering drawingsProject management certification or working towards certification is an assetDemonstrated ability to support successful project delivery and execution of project management methodsUnderstanding of organizational structures and ability to work with cross-departmental and cross-disciplinary teamsStrong negotiation, communication, and conflict resolution skillsAble to effectively communicate with all types of staff, including technical, professional, and upper managementWorking knowledge of financial management and internal controlsStrong problem identification and problem resolution skillsAble to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
