About the Role
We are looking for an entrepreneurial Country Manager for Spain to lead and scale our consumer lending business in the Spanish market. This role has full ownership of the economics and combines commercial growth, partnerships, customer journey optimisation, and credit risk management.
You will be responsible for accelerating customer acquisition through new and existing distribution partners, continuously improving conversion and unit economics, and ensuring the health and performance of the loan book.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in high-growth environments and is comfortable operating at both strategic and executional levels.
What you'll be doing:
Market & Growth Ownership
Own the overall performance of the Spanish consumer lending business, including growth, unit margin, and portfolio quality
Define and execute the country strategy in line with broader company objectives
Act as the senior market representative internally and externally
Partnerships & Customer Acquisition
Prioritise, identify, negotiate, onboard, and manage new customer acquisition partners, including:
Merchants and merchant networks
Associations and member organisations
Banks and financial institutions
Affiliates and lead generators
Direct marketing and performance channels
Build strong, long-term relationships with partners to drive sustainable volume and quality
Continuously test, evaluate, and scale new acquisition channels
Funnel & Customer Journey Optimisation
Own the end-to-end customer journey, from acquisition through application, approval, and funding
Work closely with engineering teams to:
Improve conversion rates at each stage of the funnel
Reduce friction and abandonment
Enhance customer experience and trust
Use data and experimentation to drive incremental improvements
Credit & Risk Management
Take accountability for the credit performance of the Spanish loan book
Monitor portfolio health, including approval rates, defaults, losses, and cohort performance
Collaborate with risk and analytics teams to:
Optimise underwriting criteria
Balance growth and risk appetite
Adapt models and policies to local market dynamics
Ensure compliance with local regulatory and consumer protection requirements
Team & Stakeholder Management
Build, lead, and develop the local team as the business scales
Work cross-functionally with central teams (risk, product, finance, operations, compliance)
Provide clear reporting, insights, and forecasts to senior leadership
Who you are:
Experience
Experience in consumer lending, fintech, financial services, or a closely related sector
Proven track record of scaling customer acquisition through partnerships and/or performance marketing
Understanding of credit risk, underwriting, and portfolio management
Deep familiarity with the Spanish market and regulatory environment
Skills & Attributes
Commercially sharp with strong negotiation skills
Highly analytical, comfortable working with data to drive decisions
Entrepreneurial mindset — comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change
Strong execution skills with the ability to move from strategy to action
Excellent communication skills in Spanish and English
