What you’ll be doing
- Lead and grow Commercial Law: Lead the Commercial practice and take meaningful ownership of strategy and outcomes.
- Build a high-performing team: Recruit, mentor, coach and develop lawyers; create the next wave of leaders.
- Win and expand work: Drive business development and deepen key relationships across the BlueRock client base and referral network.
- Deliver excellent client outcomes: Advise across a broad range of commercial matters with pragmatic, business-first judgement.
- Shape the firm’s leadership: Work with the Managing Director and the Director group to scale the Law division.
Requirements
The person we’re looking for
- Has stayed in one place for a long time and has earned trust, built a book, and led teams but you’re ready for your next chapter.
- Has operated in a highly constrained environment (top-tier/mid-tier, large suburban, institutional, or highly process-driven firm) and wants autonomy with accountability.
- Is a genuine rainmaker: You win work, grow relationships, and create momentum, not just “support BD”.
- Leads like it matters: You attract, develop and retain great lawyers; you lift standards; you create a team people want to be part of.
- Thinks commercially: You understand margin, pricing, utilisation, leverage, and how to build a practice that scales.
What you’ll bring
- Experience: Typically 10+ years PQE in commercial law (or equivalent depth).
- Technical credibility: Strong generalist commercial grounding; specialisation welcome.
- Practice leadership: Proven ability to lead people and run matters with high standards.
- Business development: Demonstrated track record of originating work and growing a practice.
- Practice management: Strong habits around quality, responsiveness, risk, and efficiency.
