Community Law Advice Whanganui (CLAW) is a kaupapa-driven community law centre providing free legal services to whānau across the Whanganui rohe and surrounding districts.
With new funding secured, we are seeking a Kaihāpai – Community & Legal Caseworker in a fixed-term role through to June 2027, sitting at the heart of our service and strengthening relationships with communities while improving access to justice at a grassroots level.
This is a hands-on, community-based role. You’ll work closely alongside our lawyer to provide legal information, advocacy and support, while also being a visible and trusted presence in the community. The role includes outreach clinics, community education sessions, and supporting whānau to understand their rights and navigate legal and social systems with confidence.
Regular travel across Whanganui, Raetihi, Ohakune, Waimarino, Taumarunui, Tūrangi, Rangitīkei and South Taranaki is a core part of the role.
You bring experience from legal, community, advocacy, education or social service environments, along with a strong commitment to social justice and kaupapa Māori practice. A Diploma in Legal Executive Studies or relevant legal experience is preferred, as you’ll be working closely with legal processes and documentation. Confidence using case management systems (such as Actionstep) is important.
A full, clean driver licence and willingness to travel across the rohe are essential. Fluency or conversational ability in te reo Māori is highly valued.
This role may be full-time or part-time, with flexibility for the right person. Applications will be considered as they are received.
