The Regulatory & Government Affairs Lead drives regulatory strategy, compliance coordination, government engagement, and licensing operations to support the company’s strategic goals across Malaysia and other markets.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Government Relations & Stakeholder Management
Build and nurture strategic relationships with regulators, government agencies, and relevant industry associations.
Initiate early engagement with regulators to understand upcoming regulations, influence policy direction where appropriate, and prepare internal teams for potential impacts.
Regulatory Strategy & Monitoring
Track, interpret, and analyse regulatory developments across jurisdictions, including but not limited to Bank Negara Malaysia, Labuan FSA, and other government agencies and ministries.
Maintain a regulatory obligations register (ROR) and work with our Legal team to drive timely filings, renewals, and audits.
Develop implementation roadmaps following regulatory changes, ensuring the company transitions smoothly into compliance.
Compliance and Risk Management
Identify governance and compliance risks and propose mitigation approaches.
Translate regulatory requirements into actionable compliance steps for internal teams, and oversee the execution of compliance plans in partnership with the respective internal stakeholders.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders on ensuring that both commercial interests and regulatory matters are taken into consideration in our ongoing undertakings.
Licensing, Approvals & Regulatory Filings
Manage end-to-end licensing requirements for group entities (e.g., Labuan reinsurer, financial service providers, broking/agency entities, Australian operations).
Own operational execution and collaborate with our Legal team on regulatory accuracy and statutory compliance.
Ensure timely and accurate submissions to the regulators.
Requirements
WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in insurance/insurance consulting AND regulatory affairs or compliance, with familiarity with insurance/insurtech regulations.
Experience in Bank Negara Malaysia or interfacing with regulators or government stakeholders, is strongly preferred.
Strong commercial acumen with excellent negotiation skills.
Confident communicator with political sensitivity to influence and build trust with senior stakeholders.
Self-starter with strong ownership, integrity, and pragmatic problem-solving.
Highly structured with strong documentation skills.
