Primary Objective of the Role: This role has a dual role – the job holder is expected to work with specific SEN clients during standard school hours; and a range of other students registered for the school’s Aftercare Programme during extended hours. During standard hours and in response to SEN clients, the job holder will act as a facilitator and during Aftercare, the job holder will act in the role of a Directress Assistant towards the students under her care. In carrying out the role, the job holder must:
• Work with the Head of Learning/Directress to ensure the smooth day‐to‐day running of the
classroom.
• Ensure the Montessori philosophy is practised and enhanced at all times.
• Direct and guide the students/clients to ensure they are learning and applying the knowledge.
• Promote the welfare of the children in your care.
• Act as a role model for the School with parents and other external customers.
• Keep the Head of Learning/Directress informed of significant and unusual issues as they arise.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Responsibilities
1. Working closely with the Head of Learning/Directress on all issues relating to the environment and students/clients.
2. Delivering direct one-on-one teaching and continuous assessments to clients.
3. Ensuring that the role of Class Aftercare Co-ordinator is carried out efficiently and professionally.
4. Responsible for the smooth running of your aftercare room through the structured timetable.
5. Ensuring the general care of the children in your room; outdoors during outdoor play and while on late pick up duty.
6. Working with the Head of Learning/Directress to develop and maintain the school Montessori program and clients Individual Educational Plan (IEP), utilising the prescribed scheme with themed weeks, achieving annual programmes on time, and organising outings.
7. Preparing and delivering all required reports daily, weekly and quarterly.
8. Ensuring that the school / Montessori programmes are followed on a day‐to‐day basis. This will include meal time, circle time, arts & craft, songs, and other in-curricular activities.
9. Ensuring general child stimulation using all equipment at your disposal and keeping the levels proportionate.
10. Ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed, and all relevant forms, from and for parents, are completed and collected daily. For example medical administration form, daily report sheets, incident reports etc.
11. Escalating queries from parents to Directress/ Head of Learning.
12. Escalating issues to the Head of Learning in a timely manner.
13. Respecting the rights of the children their parents.
14. Ensuring that the environment is child led and child focused.
15. Conducting general cleaning duties of room and ensuring it is safe for the children.
16. Maintaining the materials and creating appropriate ones.
17. Willingness to work in other classrooms of the School and any other client when required.
Staff Responsibilities
18. Ensuring a good level of communication with all staff in general.
19. Working as part of a team, fostering good relationship with your colleagues.
20. Supervising and directing attached junior staff if applicable.
Meeting Responsibilities
21. Organising and attending all relevant workshops and parent events when required.
22. Attending the staff meetings both at school and at TLPCentre and contributing in a positive and
constructive way.
23. Organising and attending ‘Parent/Teacher Conferences’ with Directress if required.
