The Role
As a Hardware Development Intern at Overview Energy, you will apply your knowledge, leadership, and creativity to help design and build our constellation of next-generation satellites at unprecedented affordability and scale. You will take part in the design, build, and test cycle to validate system characteristics needed for Overview Energy’s first spacecraft system, including tight iteration cycles for reliability, manufacturability, mass reduction, and system cost. This role is paid and requires a commitment of 10 weeks.
Key Responsibilities
Utilize cross-disciplinary engineering skills to develop prototypes for both new and ongoing projects and systems within an engineering team
Use CAD software (such as SolidWorks or NX) to design parts, assemblies, and components for various projects, ensuring manufacturability and ease of assembly
Implement rapid prototyping techniques through design and analysis to drive system trades and inform the overall design of the spacecraft
Validate designs and analysis through the completion of environmental and performance tests, maintaining records for future reference and quality control
Required Qualifications & Experience
Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience in a mechanical engineering role
Experience with 3D CAD and FEA
Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and hands-on mechanical assembly
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work across multiple projects and design iterations simultaneously
U.S. citizenship required
Preferred Skills & Experience
1–2 previous internship experiences
Experience designing with GD&T and DFM
Experience in spacecraft design and manufacturing
Experience with CNC machining, 3D printing, or other manufacturing techniques
Familiarity with electrical skills such as soldering and basic circuitry
Proficiency in a programming language, preferably Python
